Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan

Three talking points from the DC vs GT IPL 2025 match

The ongoing IPL season had not found a single qualifier with 59 matches completed at the group stage. However, in the 60th league stage fixture, the DC vs GT IPL 2025 match, Gujarat Titans ensured that a bulk of qualifications got completed. What the Titans did in the chase against Delhi Capitals seemed like a dress rehearsal for the playoffs when Jos Buttler departs. Skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan announced that the GT top order has the ability to remain as lethal as seen with the presence of Buttler. The DC vs GT match saw two centuries, one in the winning cause while the other fell victim to an impactless bowling attack. The 10-wicket victory by Gujarat Titans has not only sealed their playoffs berth but has taken RCB and PBKS along into the IPL 2025 playoffs.

GT, RCB, and PBKS qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs

The qualification scenarios at the start of the weekend action promised the ultimate thrill. IPL 2025 truly resumed on Saturday after the RCB vs KKR match was washed off in Bengaluru on Friday. Meanwhile, at the very start of the resumption, the season has found the first three in the final four. After Punjab Kings beat the home team in the RR vs PBKS match, the onus fell on GT to make the stride into the IPL 2025 playoffs. If Delhi Capitals had won the match at their home, another day would have gone without any of the teams qualifying. However, the dominating win by the IPL 2022 champions ensured that only one seat remains open in the IPL 2025 playoffs, making the fixtures ahead all the more crucial.

KL Rahul plays the sole fighter for Delhi Capitals with a century in the DC vs GT IPL 2025 match

The powerplay of the DC vs GT IPL 2025 match seemed like it was a Test match at play, with Mohammed Siraj keeping things tight for DC openers. Struggling to get going, Faf du Plessis choked under the pressure, departing at 5 off 10 in the fourth over. However, KL Rahul showed that a little patience was the needed element at the Delhi pitch. Together, KL Rahul and Abishek Porel knitted a 90-run partnership for DC that ensured a strong base for a challenging score. While Porel departed in the 12th over, Rahul stepped on the accelerator, taking on Kagiso Rabada to smash 17 runs in the over.

After a 35-ball fifty, Rahul loosened up with three consecutive boundaries as Axar Patel picked up the tempo from the other end. While Patel also departed soon after, Rahul kept the onslaught going. The opener smashed a century off 60 balls. KL Rahul remained unbeaten at 112 off 65 with 14 fours and four sixes in his account. Moreover, Rahul and Tristan Stubbs scored 30 in the last two overs to put up a 200-run chase for Gujarat Titans.

Sai Sudharsan smashes acentury, Gujarat Titans opening duo remained unbeaten to register a 10-wicket win

Right from the start of IPL 2025, every team has aspired to bank on the fact that Gujarat Titans have a supposed weak middle order. 'Supposed' because the theory is yet to be tested even with most of the season already completed. If either from the GT opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan falls, Jos Buttler walks in to seal the deal. In the DC vs GT match, however, the captain and Mr. Consistent of IPL 2025, Sai Sudharsan proved enough. A 200-run chase is a hard ask from any team. But the Gill-Sudharsan pair made it into a cakewalk at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, making the Capitals lineup look like a bunch of rookies.

Unlike DC, GT utilized the powerplay seamlessly, smashing 59 with Sudharsan playing at 44 off 23 in the first six overs. The closest that DC came to scalping a wicket was when Kuldeep Yadav trapped Sudharsan in an LBW. However, an umpire's call played the hindrance, leaving the spinner fuming at the lost opportunity. From there onwards, DC bowlers, with three spinners in the lineup, couldn't even muster a semblance of threat to the GT opening duo.

Sai Sudharsan scored his fifth half-century of the season, making 50 off 30 deliveries. Shubman Gill played the supporting role while Sudharsan batted at a pace in sync with the asking run rate. The pair then notched another 100-run partnership, seventh for them in the IPL. The duo then shed the patient play to pick up the pace, as Shubman Gill toyed with Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav with sixes. With only 200 to chase, either Gill or Sudharsan could have gone for a century. The skipper played his part of being the second fiddle seamlessly as his partner scored the three figures. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan wrapped the match, remaining unbeaten at 93 off 53 and 108 off 61, as GT beat DC by 10 wickets.
