IPL 2025 Resumption: All you need to know
The last match of the IPL 2025 took place between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala on 8th May 2025. It was abandoned after 10.1 overs and, according to the IPL 2025 revised schedule, that game will now take place on 24th May. The final leg of the IPL 2025 resumes on 17th May 2025 with a much-anticipated clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
There are 13 league stage matches still left to be played, scheduled from 17th to 27th May 2025. Post that, Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Qualifier 2 will take place on 29th May, 30th May, and 1st June, respectively. The final of the IPL 2025 is slated to take place on 3rd June 2025, Tuesday.
What venues have been decided?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India had announced that the remainder of IPL 2025 will be held in six venues for the league-stage matches, namely Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. The venue for the playoffs and the IPL 2025 final is yet to be decided.
What is the status of the overseas players?
Gujarat Titans:
Most of the overseas contingent is available to play the remainder of the IPL 2025. However, their two big star players Jos Buttler and Kagiso Rabada will return home after the league stage games.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
The likes of Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Lungi Ngidi, and Phil Salt have joined the franchise. However, not all of them are available for the entirety of the final leg. Jacob Bethell will only play two more matches, while Lungi Ngidi will miss the playoffs. RCB is still awaiting Josh Hazlewood’s return. The franchise is yet to confirm if he is available for the final leg of IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings:
Their lead fast bowler, Marco Jansen won’t be available after the league-stage matches, while the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, and Aaron Hardie are unlikely to return. As of now - only three overseas players- Xavier Bartlett, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mitchell Owen - have confirmed their availability for the entirety of IPL 2025.
Mumbai Indians:
Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, Ryan Rickleton, Corbin Bosch, Reece Topley, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Bevon Jacobs are available. Bosch, Rickleton and Will Jacks will return after the league-stage due to their national commitments.
Delhi Capitals:
Delhi Capitals have dealt with a big blow as Mitchell Starc has made himself unavailable for the final leg. Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs are back, while Mustafizur Rahman has been roped in as a replacement for Starc. Australian opener Frazer McGurk isn’t returning to India.
Lucknow Super Giants:
Pacer Shamar Joseph has made himself unavailable, while Aiden Markram won’t be available for the playoffs if LSG qualify. Apart from these two, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, and Mathew Breetzke will all be available for the final leg.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
All the overseas players except Rovman Powell and Moeen Ali are available for the rest of the season. Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Quinton de Kock, Spencer Johnson, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Anrich Nortje have all returned to India.
Rajasthan Royals:
Rajasthan Royals have two games left, and the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kwena Maphaka, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius have all landed in India. Jofra Archer and Maheesh Theekshana will miss the remaining two fixtures due to injuries.
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Pat Cummins and Travis Head have joined the team for the remainder of the matches. Klaasen, Malinga, and Kamindu Mendis are also expected to join soon.
Chennai Super Kings:
Noor Ahmed, Dewald Brevis, and Matheesa Pathirana have returned to play the remainder of IPL 2025, though it remains unclear whether Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra will return Jamie Overton has pulled out of the final leg of IPL 2025.
What’s the current IPL 2025 Points Table standings?
Gujarat Titans are currently placed at number one spot on the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore at second with as many points. Both teams have three games remaining and need a solitary win to ensure their playoff qualification.
At number three is Punjab Kings with 15 points from 11 games. They need two more wins to reach the playoffs. Mumbai Indians are at fourth with 14 points in 12 games. Delhi Capitals have 13 points in 11 games and currently find themselves in the fifth spot.
KKR and LSG are in the sixth and seventh positions, respectively. Both are on the verge of elimination as their chances of reaching the playoffs are second to none. The bottom three teams, namely Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings have already been eliminated from the playoffs race.
