RCB vs SRH

Three turning points in the RCB vs SRH IPL 2025 match

The tides look to have turned, though a bit too late. The teams that lost their matches to provide a path for others to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs are now defeating the toppers. While the playoffs spots have already been booked, the eliminated sides are having a say with whatever harm they could deliver to the toppers. It was LSG beating the top-ranked GT by 33 runs on Thursday. It's Sunrisers Hyderabad now who have handed a 42-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the RCB vs SRH IPL 2025 match. Similarly to GT, RCB took a blow at their hopes to have the ideal Top 2 finish for the playoffs. Credit where it's due, though already out of contention, the likes of SRH and LSG are making the equation interesting ahead of the all-important final stage of IPL 2025.

Hyderabad dent the chances of a Top 2 finish for Bengaluru with the victory in RCB vs SRH IPL 2025 match

The spark in the batting order of Sunrisers Hyderabad that eluded the team for the most part of IPL 2025 returned in Lucknow. Ishan Kishan neared a century, and Abhishek Sharma provided a blazing start to the cause. Aniket Verma had an impactful cameo as SRH posed a mammoth 231 on the board for RCB to chase. Royal Challengers Bengaluru showed up with an opening pair that looked invincible in the chase. However, a collapse followed in the later overs, playing the deciding factor as the second-ranked team at the IPL 2025 points table slipped from the rank. SRH remained where it was, at the 8th spot, already eliminated. However, every team is hopeful to finish the campaign on whatever high they could manage, and the Sunrisers ensured to clinch the opportunity.

Ishan Kishan knocks a near-century as SRH put RCB into the mamoth 232-run chase in Lucknow

Jitesh Sharma, the interim captain for the RCB vs SRH match, opted to chase at the Ekana Stadium. What followed was a striking start as Abhishek Sharma found his rhythm, yet again. The young gun spared none of the RCB pacers, hitting three sixes and as many fours in the powerplay. However, Lungi Ngidi found his way into the contest, luring the SRH opener into another big hit which landed into the hands of Phil Salt in the deep. Travis Head followed his partner soon after as RCB managed to reduce SRH to 54 for 2 in the starting six overs.

Playing around the cameos was Ishan Kishan, who held the fort right till the end. It was a responsible show from the 'Pocket Dynamo', who accelerated at just the right moment. Heinrich Klaasen added 24 off 13, and Aniket Verma played a blazing knock of 26 off just 9. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy failed to impose a similar impact. Despite the instability at the other end, Kishan kept at it, completing his half-century off 28 deliveries.

With Abhinav Manohar as his partner in the death, the duo accelerated the assault. Though Manohar departed at 12 off 11, finding a six in his knock, Kishan took charge against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Pat Cummins and Ishan Kishan went berserk in the final overs as SRH mounted 231 on the board, while Ishan Kishan departed unbeaten on 94 off 48.

Virat Kohli and Phil Salt provide promising start with blazing display in the powerplay of the RCB vs SRH chase

The chase set in the RCB vs SRH IPL 2025 match put the Sunrisers in the favorable post. However, the power imbalance lasted mere seconds as Phil Salt and Virat Kohli set the tone for RCB's domination in the powerplay itself. While Salt waited to find his feet, Kohli went big right from the word go. Taking on Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel, Kohli notched 43 off 25, pushing the RCB total to 79 in the powerplay without losing any wickets.

The breakthrough was brought by debutant Harsh Dubey, who trapped Kohli into a soft dismissal. However, Salt had found his beat until then, as SRH enjoyed little to no respite in the cause of curbing the run flow. The opener completed his fifty off 27 balls. But in a chase of 232, the defending team has more than a single chance to track back into the game. SRH's comeback happened when RCB lost two wickets in back-to-back overs, dismissing Mayank Agarwal and Phil Salt. While Jitesh Sharma threatened yet again with his aggressive hitting, Nitish Kumar Reddy put the brakes with a boundary-less 15th over.

Eshan Malinga knits and Pat Cummins seals the deal as SRH beat RCB by 42-runs

The final stretch kicked off perfectly for SRH, thanks to a game-changing spell from Eshan Malinga. Rajat Patidar lost his composure with a near-perfect yorker, finding a single where there was no chance. The impact player departed via a run out as Malinga found the stumps with a direct hit. The seamer then claimed Romario Shepherd in a caught-and-bowled dismissal, sending the hitter back for a duck.

RCB’s hopes continued to crumble as Jitesh fell in the next over, mistiming a big shot straight to the boundary fielder. In a last-gasp effort to revive the chase, Tim David, who had picked up a knock during SRH’s innings, hobbled to the crease. His mobility restricted, David was forced to swing hard without being able to rotate strike. Malinga capitalized, delivering three consecutive dot balls to push the required runs to 53 off 15, and then removed the finisher on the fourth delivery. Pat Cummins completed the task with his over where Krunal Pandya fell to a hit-wicket, and the SRH captain dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The victory of Hyderabad in the RCB vs SRH match pushed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the third spot at the IPL 2025 points table. Punjab Kings charged to the second spot with a better NRR than RCB. Now, the fan-favorites rely on the RCB vs LSG match, their last match at the stage, to try for a Top 2 finish ahead of the playoffs.
