Originally, the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 and the title clash were scheduled at the den of the defending champions, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, the India-Pakistan conflict put a slump in the plans. IPL 2025 observed an over-a-week-long suspension, and when it returned, the revised schedule featured many surprising adjustments. The final was shifted to June 3, and the venues for the remaining fixtures were changed. The announcement of the venues for the IPL 2025 playoff fixtures arrived a bit late. When it came, however, it stirred contention among the fans. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator were shifted to Mullanpur, while Qualifier 2 and the Final were moved to Ahmedabad.

The abandonment of the RCB vs KKR IPL 2025 match at Chinnaswamy immediately upon the resumption of IPL 2025 alerted the council. In response, the BCCI introduced new rules, allotting extra time to the remaining matches in case rain hindered proceedings. Moreover, the venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs were selected with special focus on minimizing rain threats. However, as it stands, the PBKS vs MI IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 fixture has been stalled in Ahmedabad. While the toss transpired seamlessly and as per the schedule, the start was delayed due to rain.

The BCCI has come under heavy scrutiny after rain disrupted proceedings in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. The delay came right after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first under cloudy skies. Although no rain had been predicted leading into the game, a light drizzle the previous day had already kept the pitch under covers. Unfortunately, the showers returned at the worst possible time, just as the players were ready to step onto the field. What was poised as a high-stakes knockout clash has been held up by weather, with nearly two hours slipping by without a single delivery being bowled.

As the delay wore on, fans took to social media to express frustration, slamming the BCCI’s choice of venue. Adding fuel to the fire, reports showed that Kolkata, another potential host city, had clear skies, which only intensified the backlash. The match, fortunately, has started in Ahmedabad. No overs have been deducted with the first innings starting from 9:45 pm IST. While the game has started, if rain ultimately forces an abandonment of the match, Punjab Kings will progress to the final by virtue of finishing higher in the league standings. Shreyas Iyer’s side had secured the top spot with 19 points, whereas Mumbai Indians ended the group stage in fourth place.
