IPL 2025 Qualifier 2: What happens if the PBKS vs MI clash is washed out?
The 18th edition of the IPL has moved to Ahmedabad, the site set to host the conclusion. The playoffs kicked off in Mullanpur with the Qualifier 1 clash between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB beat PBKS to earn a direct entry into the IPL 2025 final. Moving ahead, the same venue staged the GT vs MI IPL 2025 Eliminator. With a 20-run victory, Mumbai Indians set up the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 against PBKS as Gujarat Titans bowed out of the tussle. Now, the action has shifted to Ahmedabad, where Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians lock horns to claim the final spot. Read ahead to check if the Qualifier 2 clash in Ahmedabad faced a rain scare.
Is there a reserve day allotted to the PBKS vs MI IPL 2025 Qualifier 2?
Ahmedabad has seen its fair share of showers in the lead-up to the IPL 2025 playoff clashes, raising questions over potential disruptions to either Qualifier 2. Fortunately, the weather outlook for the all-important clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians appeared promising on the day of the PBKS vs MI clash. However, at the time of the toss, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya rounded off under a cloudy sky as Ravi Shastri termed the conditions at the venue as 'overcast'. While the fixture is treading as scheduled currently, let's see what happens if rain plays a spoilsport ahead.

The governing council introduced a revised schedule after IPL 2025 was forced into a week-long suspension due to the India-Pakistan conflict. The new schedule pushed the final from May 25 to June 3. Moreover, the final was scheduled just a day ahead of the Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad. With just a single day separating Qualifier 2 and the final, there's no room for a reserve day. If the match is hindered midway, DLS would come into play. However, if there's a washout in the PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2, then the points table would decide the fate ahead.
In the event of a complete washout of Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad, the team that finished higher in the points table will automatically advance to the final. This scenario favours Punjab Kings, who topped the points table. Not only did finishing first secure them two chances to reach the final after their defeat to RCB in Qualifier 1, but it also gives them an edge over fourth-placed Mumbai Indians if rain plays spoilsport. Whoever emerges from this contest will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on June 3, where RCB await their challenger as they aim to capture their maiden IPL title.
