Player Ratings: Flamengo stun Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup

In the second gameweek of the FIFA Club World Cup, Flamengo stunned fans and neutrals alike with a commanding 3-1 win over Chelsea. While Chelsea started strong, they faltered in the second half, allowing Flamengo to take full control. The game began at a high tempo, with Chelsea’s Caicedo making a controversial tackle on Jorginho.

Although he was only shown a yellow card, the tension on the pitch remained high. Just two minutes later, Chelsea asserted their dominance with a goal from Pedro Neto. Despite Flamengo's push for an equalizer, Chelsea held firm. Levi Colwill made a crucial goal-line clearance, and though Gerson had another chance shortly after, goalkeeper Robert Sánchez stood tall. On the rebound, Gonzalo Plata sent his shot wide. 

The second half saw a complete shift in momentum. Bruno Henrique scored the equalizer just past the hour mark, and Danilo followed up with a goal in the 65th minute to put Flamengo ahead. Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Nicolas Jackson, just four minutes after coming on, received a red card for a reckless tackle on Ayrton Lucas. Flamengo sealed the win in the 83rd minute, with Wallace Yan firing in the third goal past Sánchez. 

With this win, Flamengo are all but certain to advance to the next round, while Chelsea will need to battle it out with ES Tunis to stay in the competition.
