“I said yes to Manchester United”- Robert Lewandowski makes staggering revelation
One of the best strikers in modern football, Robert Lewandowski, recently, made a staggering revelation, stating that he was willing to join Manchester United in 2012.
Robert joined Borussia Dortmund in summer of 2010 and made a fantastic start to his German football career. In the year 2012, when he had become a household name for the club, a dream opportunity at Manchester United came calling and the Poland footballer had said ‘yes’ to that. However, Borussia Dortmund didn't let him go.
"To Manchester United I decided and said yes," he told BBC Sport. "I wanted to join Manchester United, to see Alex Ferguson."
Dortmund knew that if he had stayed for longer, they would have made more money and, hence, the German club didn't allow that transfer to happen.
"They could not sell me," Lewandowski said. "Because they knew if I stayed they could earn more money, and that I could wait maybe one or two more years.
"But it is true that I said yes to Manchester United."
Lewandowski played four seasons at Borussia Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp. During his time at the club, he made 131 Bundesliga appearances, netting 74 times. Besides, he scored 17 goals in 28 UEFA Champions League appearances. Dortmund clinched back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
Following his move to Bayern Munich in 2014, Lewandowski scaled even higher and continued to win hearts. The Poland striker's remarkable goal-scoring spree made him the second all-time goal-scorer for Bayern Munich, only behind Gerd Muller. He won eight Bundesliga titles in a row along with a Champions League title in 2019-20.
“Don't have this kind of feeling that I missed something”- Lewandowski
The 36-year-old footballer enjoyed an incredible career in Bundesliga and then in La Liga but didn't compete in English Premier League. Lewandowski, however, doesn’t regret anything in professional life.
"But when I am looking back [having] played for Bayern Munich, Dortmund and now Barcelona I have to say I am very happy with my career.”
"I don't have this kind of feeling that I missed something, because every move or decision... I made it because I wanted it."
Following his time at Bayern Munich, Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022 and is under contract until June 2026. He is fully committed to the club and has no desire to leave.
