Three talking points from the PBKS vs LSG IPL 2025 match
The stakes were higher for one team than the other at the scenic Dharamsala venue. While the Punjab Kings aimed to secure a spot in the Top 2, it was a crucial opportunity for LSG to strengthen their IPL 2025 playoff hopes. However, in a high-scoring spectacle in Dharamsala, it was Punjab Kings who emerged victorious in the PBKS vs LSG IPL 2025 clash. Following the washout against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab have now collected 15 points, placing them below RCB on the IPL 2025 points table. The side, led by Shreyas Iyer, has three more league-stage matches left before the final playoff standings are determined.
Key moments from the PBKS vs LSG IPL 2025 match
Lucknow Super Giants will rue the control they never managed to establish in the PBKS vs LSG IPL 2025 match. Despite striking as early as the first over, they failed to rein in the home side. Even after the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer with the score at 128 in the 13th over, the visitors struggled to claw their way back as the in-form Prabhsimran Singh continued to anchor the innings. Prabhsimran and Marcus Stoinis launched Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan into the stands during the death overs, before Shashank Singh added to the carnage. The final overs proved disastrous for LSG, with Punjab Kings storming to a mammoth 236-run total.

A remarkable 91-run knock by Prabhsimran Singh led the charge for the home team in the PBKS vs LSG IPL 2025 match at Dharamsala
Despite losing his partner early in the innings, Prabhsimran Singh was far from deterred in his onslaught. Though he remained vigilant against the LSG debutant Akash Singh, Prabhsimran read Mayank Yadav well to launch two sixes and a four off him.Yadav was thrashed similarly brutally by Josh Inglis who found three sixes off Lucknow's primary pacer. However, Akash Singh struck again as Inglis mistimed a pull to David Miller at deep midwicket. With luck by his side, the man in-form, Prabhsimran was dropped by Nicholas Pooran off Avesh Khan. The opener responded with a boundary to ensure a strong powerplay finish.
Even after the field restrictions were lifted, Prabhsimran kept the scoreboard ticking with regular boundaries and clever strike rotation alongside Shreyas Iyer. With his captain by his side, Prabhsimran notched a 30-ball half-century. Digvesh Rathi managed to get rid of the PBKS captain on 45 but Prabhsimran stood solid. Despite removing Iyer and Nehal Wadhera in quick succession, the death flowed against LSG.
Mayank Yadav capped off his spell with a 15-run over as he leaked 60 in his quote of 4 overs. Avesh Khan suffered in the 18th over as Shashank Singh smashed two fours and Prabhsimran smased two sixes and a four to take 26 off the over. That flurry brought up a 50-run partnership in just 16 balls and pushed PBKS to 212 with two overs remaining. LSG finally managed to get rid of Prabhsimran who departed against Rathi at the score of 91 off just 48, an innings that made all the difference. A six from Stoinis and a four by Shashank off Avesh rounded off the innings as PBKS posted their highest total at this venue.
Arshdeep Singh rattled Lucknow Super Giants early in the chase, removing the in-form trio in the powerplay
A total of 236, to be chased against a lineup featuring Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen, was never going to be a cakewalk. In a pattern observed throughout IPL 2025, LSG have relied heavily on their top order, with skipper Rishabh Pant and David Miller consistently struggling to contribute to the run-scoring. PBKS knew the winning formula, remove Markram, Marsh, and Pooran early to keep the victory at home. With the plan already in place, Shreyas Iyer unleashed his most lethal weapon during the powerplay, giving Arshdeep three overs in the first six.
While the first over didn't bear any wickets, the pressure was set early as Arshdeep leaked just three runs. he pressure materialized into favorable result when the speedster returned in the third over. Arshdeep struck twice in his next, removing Mitchell Marsh with a catch and bowling Markram off an inside edge while giving away just one run. Rishabh Pant tried to lift the innings with a six off Jansen in the next over. However, the main threat, Pooran was removed in the powerplay as Arshdeep returned to bowl his third over as LSG was reduced to 29 for 3.
Ayush Badoni fought solely before the victory sided with Punjab Kings
Rishabh Pant and Ayush Badoni tried to shift gears, sneaking in boundaries off Yuzvendra Chahal and Azmatullah Omarzai. However, victim of a dry slump that has chased him throughout IPL 2025, the LSG skipper, Rishabh Pant lost grip, both of the bat and his wicket, departing at 18 against Omarzai. Soon after, David Miller fell cheaply, leaving LSG reeling at 73/5 in 10 overs.

Abdul Samad and Badoni attempted a rescue act, targeting Chahal and Vyshak. Samad cleared the ropes off Vyshak, while Badoni hammered a six and two fours in a 21-run over. Samad added two sixes off Chahal, and Badoni brought up a 22-ball fifty against Vyshak. But with the required rate rising past 18 and nearing 19 after 14 overs, the chase became daunting.
Arshdeep closed out a superb spell, giving just six runs in the 16th over, lifting the required rate to 22. The sixth-wicket partnership of 81 off 41 was finally broken when Jansen removed Samad with a caugh-and-bowled dismissal. LSG needed 79 off 18 balls, and Badoni hit two sixes and a four in Vyshak’s final over to reduce it to 61 from 12. He brought up his fifty in 32 balls but couldn’t carry the side over the line. Chahal removed him in the last over, and Avesh Khan hit a six and four to narrow the margin slightly, but it was far from enough.
While Badoni tried his best to keep the NRR afloat, LSG first needs to earn the crucial points to vie for a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs, which seems to be inching away with every match. In a season where the middle overs have consistently lacked control, it seems like a tough ask for the Lucknow Super Giants. However, on the flip side, things are looking bright for the Punjab Kings under the new leadership of Shreyas Iyer.
