In a season where discussions are rife about whether RCB or MI is the team to beat, GT continue to mount a threatening bid for the top. With an uncanny ability to climb the ladder without drawing much attention, GT have followed the blueprint to perfection in IPL 2025 as well. While captain Shubman Gill kept things unbelievably alive in the field, it was rarely out of question whether the home team would win the GT vs SRH IPL 2025 match. SRH did try. To put it more specifically, Abhishek Sharma tried. But the resistance stopped there, as Gujarat Titans notched up their seventh win of the season and surged to the second spot on the IPL 2025 points table.

Key moments from the GT vs SRH IPL 2025 match

No one has been able to gauge the true strength, or lack thereof, of the Gujarat Titans' middle order. The top order has proved to be such a strong shield that few teams have managed to break through. Sai Sudharsan, arguably the most consistent batter of the season so far, along with captain Shubman Gill, proved instrumental once again.

To ensure an all-round onslaught against the visitors, Jos Buttler chipped in with another half-century as the home team laid the foundation for a comfortable victory in the first innings of the GT vs SRH match. Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to take the game surprisingly deep, but the GT bowlers delivered when it mattered, helping Gill and Co. seal a 38-run win. Placed at the second position, Gujarat Titans now look to seal the spot as the IPL 2025 group stage swiftly approaches conclusion.

The unbeaten GT top order continued to showcase unmatched consistency in the GT vs SRH IPL 2025 match

Put to bat first in Ahmedabad, GT’s innings began with a bang, with their openers putting on a clinic in power-hitting during the fielding restrictions. Not the flag bearers of mindless slogging, GT openers are known for staying true to traditional and technically sound batting. However, no one has ruled out the chances of going big with these shots. The powerplay showcased some of the best shots in the tournament, coming out of the bats of Sudharsan and Gill. The openers notched up 82 runs in the powerplay, the team's best at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The captain kickstarted the assault with a sixer against Mohammed Shami. After a quiet second over, the runs began to flow freely. Sudharsan took 22 off Shami’s third over, while Gill targeted Cummins in the fourth with crisp boundaries and a six. A four-boundary over from Harshal Patel followed, and GT raced to their highest-ever powerplay score, also the best this season in Ahmedabad.

The Titans lost Sudharsan on 48, caught behind off a Zeeshan Ansari googly, but Jos Buttler took over seamlessly. One of the strongest pillars of GT in IPL 2025, Buttler launched a six down the ground to bring up 4000 IPL runs and reached a 31-ball half-century with a flurry of big hits. Alongside Gill, he stitched a rapid fifty-run stand. Gill eventually fell short of his ground after a sharp piece of fielding and a third-umpire referral, ending an outstanding knock. While the dismissal was followed by drama as Shubman Gill confronted the umpire animatedly at the boundary line, SRH nonetheless gained a wicket as the GT captain departed at 76 off 38.

Even as SRH found some control in the middle overs, GT’s total kept mounting. Buttler continued to attack, slamming a six and a four off Ansari in the 17th, and added 15 more in the next over. He departed in the penultimate over but Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and Washington Sundar added handy blows at the death to push the total to the mammoth sum of 224.

Abhishek Sharma fought as the lone warrior for SRH

SRH began their chase aggressively, with Head and Abhishek finding the fence early. But GT’s pace battery soon pulled things back. GT's best foot forward this season, Prasidh Krishna joined the attack to remove Travis Head. Ishan Kishan struggled before falling to debutant Gerald Coetzee. Abhishek Sharma kept fighting, bringing up a quick fifty and smashing Rashid for multiple boundaries, but GT’s fielding and tight lines ensured SRH never quite caught up with the required rate.

A peach of a yorker nearly trapped Abhishek LBW, and though he survived on umpire’s call. Another dramatic halt followed as Shubman Gill, for the second time in the same match, confronted the umpires. While the victory was for GT to take, Gill could be penalized for his demeanor in the GT vs SRH IPL 2025 match. Abhishek Sharma departed soon after, at a fighting 74 off 41, as he fell victim to a rogue shot off Ishant Sharma.

GT pacers pulled things back despite an expensive spell by Rashid Khan in the chase

While SRH attempted a similar aggressive start like the Titans, GT’s pace attack tightened the screws early, giving away 25 runs fewer than GT in their opening six. Prasidh Krishna then took charge in the middle overs, cleverly mixing up his pace to curb scoring. He ended with an exceptional 2 for 19, removing Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen and keeping GT firmly on top. Prasidh returned for his final over and got Heinrich Klaasen, dashing any remaining hope for SRH to make a comeback in the game. It was a smooth sailing voyage from there.

Matching the pressure imposed by Ishant Sharma and Prasidh Krishna, Siraj dismissed Aniket Verma and Kamindu Mendis. Moreover, even though Rashid Khan leaked 21 runs in the penultimate over, the chase had already slipped beyond SRH’s grasp. Sai Kishore bowled the last over as Ishant Sharma left due to discomfort, a fight from SRH was not in question despite Nitish Kumar Reddy and Pat Cummins founding the boundary too often at the death.
