Despite a sublime show at Gujarat's home ground, the captain left the pitch fuming after his dismissal. The GT vs SRH IPL 2025 match began with Pat Cummins opting to bowl first in Ahmedabad. What followed was a fiery display as the GT top order redefined consistency. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, already in a rich vein of form, stepped up their game on home turf. The opening duo smashed over 80 runs in the powerplay itself, as the SRH bowlers scrambled for cover amid the flurry of boundaries. However, the end of the captain's impressive innings was not as positive as the knock itself. Shubman Gill was visibly livid after his controversial run-out decision.

The incident occurred on the final delivery of the 13th over, when a sharp throw from Harshal Patel caught Gill short at the striker’s end. While it was evident that Gill had failed to make it to the crease, the real contention centered around whether Heinrich Klaasen had broken the stumps with the ball in hand. The TV umpire, Michael Gough, reviewed the moment repeatedly from various angles. One replay showed Klaasen flicking the ball, but from the head-on perspective, it was unclear whether the ball or Klaasen’s glove had actually disturbed the stumps.

Despite the ambiguity, the decision went in SRH’s favour, leading to Gill’s dismissal. Shubman Gill, who remained composed during the review, appeared visibly frustrated once the verdict was declared. He later approached the match official near the boundary, seemingly seeking clarification over the contentious call.

Before the dismissal, Gill had been in sublime touch. The Gujarat skipper unleashed a flurry of elegant strokes, racing to 76 off just 38 balls, including 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. His knock was calculated, aggressive, and well on course for a century. He brought up his half-century in just 25 deliveries and stitched together a 87-run stand with opener Sai Sudharsan, who contributed 48 off 23 balls.

Later, Gill added another 52 runs alongside Jos Buttler, giving Gujarat Titans a dominant platform to post a total exceeding 200. Following his innings, Gill now sits third in the race for the Orange Cap with 465 runs from 10 outings, trailing only Sai Sudharsan and Suryakumar Yadav.
