While mustering a win was beyond Pakistan's ability, their head of the board ensured that he kept the trophy away from the actual champions. The Men in Blue completed a 3-0 sweep against their arch-rivals, beating them by five wickets to win the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 final. Their glorious unbeaten run in the subcontinental tournament, however, was deprived of the symbolic reward, the Asia Cup trophy. Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC and PCB chair, was too egoistic, opting to run away with the trophy after the Men in Blue refused to receive the accolade from the hands of a Pakistani interior minister.

"I have never seen...": Suryakumar Yadav calls out Mohsin Naqvi for taking away the Asia Cup trophy after India's win in the final

The conclusion of the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 final saw significant drama, a scene that has run parallel to every face-off between the arch-rivals. Unlike their last two meet-ups in the Asia Cup 2025, the final was not one-sided, testing the Men in Blue. However, Pakistan's batting collapse and the heroic knock of Tilak Varma in the chase saw India reaffirming their dominance over their opponents. Following the five-wicket win, India refused to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.

Naqvi is the current chairman of the Asian Cricket Council. However, he is also the PCB head and an interior minister in the Pakistan cabinet. While his positions in the Pakistan administration would have been enough for India to boycott any interactions, Naqvi's actions throughout the Asia Cup 2025 gave them more than enough reasons. From posting offensive takes on social media to backing his team into below-the-belt gestures against India on the field, Naqvi acted more like an enemy and less like the neutral authority of the tournament as the ACC chair.

Thus, when it was confirmed that Naqvi would be the one presenting the Asia Cup trophy to the winners, Team India refused to go on stage. After over an hour of delay, the presentation ceremony finally kicked off as Pakistan, the runners-up, came up to receive their medals. From India, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Kuldeep Yadav collected their rewards as the Player of the Tournament, Player of the Match, and Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, respectively.

However, the team did not show up to collect either the medals or the trophy with Naqvi presiding over the prize distribution. The delay, meanwhile, was caused by Naqvi, who stood firm on his decision to hand over the reward, prioritising his ego. Despite the match referee’s intervention, Naqvi did not allow any other dignitary on stage to present the trophy to the Asia Cup 2025 champions. As a result, India was left to celebrate their dominating win without the cup.

Interestingly, playing true to his Pakistani character, Naqvi left the premises after throwing tantrums. However, he did not leave alone. The PCB head took the medals and the trophy, the rewards that truly belonged to Team India, with him. The Men in Blue did not let the drama mar their celebrations. Suryakumar Yadav and his boys celebrated just as a champion team would, only without the Asia Cup trophy.

Following the conclusion of the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 final and the trophy drama, Suryakumar Yadav addressed the media. The Indian skipper, who led the charge and refused to engage in customary handshakes with the arch-rivals at any point during the tournament, spoke about Naqvi's erratic behaviour. In a hilarious twist of events, SKY seemed to have imitated Salman Ali Agha, who earlier spoke about how he had never seen a team refuse to shake hands before in his cricket career.

"This is one thing which I have never seen. Since I started playing cricket, I have been following cricket. That a champion team is denied a trophy. That too, a hard-earned one. It's not like it happened easily. But it was a hard-earned victory. We have been here since the 4th and played a game today. Two back-to-back good games in two days. I feel we deserved it. And I can't say anything more. I think I have summed it up really well," the Indian captain told reporters.

"If you tell me about the trophies, my trophies are sitting in my dressing room. All 14 guys are with me. All the support staff. Those are the real trophies. I have been a big fan of these boys throughout this journey of the Asia Cup. Since we came here, we have played this tournament. We started our preparations. I think those are the real trophies. Real moments which I am taking back as lovely memories which will stay with me forever going forward. And that's all," he added.
