This coming winter, football legend Lionel Messi might surprise fans by swapping his football boots for cricket spikes. Instead of dribbling a football, the Argentine superstar could be wielding a cricket bat, taking on a completely new challenge. If everything goes according to plan, Messi will be facing off against two of India’s biggest cricket icons — MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli — in a thrilling seven-a-side cricket match. The much-anticipated event is set to take place on December 14 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This unique crossover is generating huge excitement among fans of both football and cricket, as it brings together legends from two of the world’s most popular sports. Messi, known for his incredible agility, precision, and skill on the football field, will be testing his hand at cricket, a sport deeply cherished in India. Meanwhile, Dhoni and Kohli, renowned for their leadership and batting prowess, will be eager to showcase their talent against a sporting giant from a different arena.

Efforts are currently underway to finalize the logistics for the highly anticipated seven-a-side cricket match featuring Lionel Messi, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli. The event promises to be a star-studded affair, with rumors suggesting that other cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma might also take the field, adding even more excitement and star power to the match. Organizers are working closely with various stakeholders to ensure a smooth and spectacular experience for both players and fans.

A prominent event management agency has reportedly reached out to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to block the Wankhede Stadium on December 14, the date when Messi is expected to be in Mumbai. His visit is part of a promotional tour across India, making the timing perfect for this unique sporting crossover event. Securing the venue is a critical step in moving forward with the match plans, and discussions are ongoing to confirm all arrangements. With the Wankhede Stadium being one of the most iconic cricket grounds in the country, hosting such a historic game will no doubt attract massive attention, blending the worlds of football and cricket in a way never seen before in India. Fans eagerly await official confirmation as preparations continue.

“Messi will be at Wankhede Stadium on December 14. He is likely to play a cricket match, too, with former and current cricketers. The organisers will come up with a complete schedule once everything is finalised,” stated an MCA source.

During his brief visit to India from December 13 to 15, Lionel Messi is expected to travel not only to Mumbai but also to New Delhi and Kolkata. This will mark Messi’s second visit to India and his first in 14 years, since he played in an international friendly against Venezuela at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium back in 2011. Earlier reports had suggested that the Argentina national football team, including Messi, would come to India for a friendly match in October.

This news came from Kerala’s Sports Minister V Abdurahiman, who announced that the state government had reached an agreement with the Argentina Football Association (AFA) to host two games featuring La Albiceleste in Kerala. While those plans have yet to be finalized, Messi’s December trip promises to be a significant event, combining promotional activities with the much-anticipated seven-a-side cricket match in Mumbai. Fans across India are eagerly looking forward to the superstar’s return after more than a decade.
