India vs West Indies: Hosts seal 2-0 sweep with late but convincing win in Delhi
Shubman Gill has won his first Test series as the captain, leading his team to a 2-0 sweep in the India vs West Indies series. Brilliant batting and some bold calls from the skipper made it an exciting watch, despite the contest being largely one-sided. While the Ahmedabad Test unfolded as anticipated, with the hosts winning by an innings within three days, the final fixture in Delhi extended right to the final day. Bundling out the visitors for just 248 runs, India opted to enforce the follow-on in the Delhi Test. A fightback from West Indies, led by Shai Hope and John Campbell, forced the hosts to bat again before victory finally fell into their lap.

The two-match India vs West Indies Test series at home was poised as a swift and rather seamless task for the hosts before the focus shifted to the Australia Tour. However, a bold decision from the Indian leadership, directed by Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir, along with an unexpected fightback from West Indies, brought some contest to the Delhi Test.
The series opener in Ahmedabad saw KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja piling on the runs with statement tons. The Ahmedabad Test also marked the maiden Test century of Dhruv Jurel, a part of the India Playing XI in the injury-caused absence of Rishabh Pant. Jadeja, the proven match-winner, headlined the first Test with the cherry as well, scalping four wickets in the final innings as India won the opener by an innings and 140 runs. The Ahmedabad track also witnessed Mohammed Siraj scalping a four-fer in the first innings.
With no workload management intervening in their plans, India introduced an unchanged XI for the Delhi Test. The final fixture started on a high for Shubman Gill, who finally won his first toss as the Indian captain, opting to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal then took center stage with a blazing ton, smashing 175 off 258 before unfortunately falling to a run out, with Gill involved in the mix-up. However, the skipper did not let the momentum slide, piling on his 10th Test century and going unbeaten on 129 as the hosts declared on Day 2 with a score of 518.
West Indies, under scrutiny for quite some time now for the lack of fight and intent in their Test turn-ups, bundled out cheaply as Kuldeep Yadav scalped a fifer. The expected performance of the Windies boosted India’s already raging confidence as Shubman Gill, in accordance with Gautam Gambhir, enforced the follow-on. The decision backfired as John Campbell and Shai Hope showed the long-missing intent, forging a 177-run partnership with respective centuries.
In a rare show of comeback, WI dashed the trail on Day 4 of the Delhi Test. However, the fall of Hope once again triggered a collapse until Jayden Seales showed up at the last, helping his team give a 121-run target to the hosts. The concluding moments of Day 4 witnessed India losing Jaiswal early and KL Rahul coping with a nasty blow. Stumps were called with the hosts needing 58 runs to seal the series sweep.
It took a little over an hour for the second and final India vs West Indies Test to wrap up in Delhi. Shubman Gill departed after making 15 runs. However, an unbeaten fifty by KL Rahul ensured that the proceedings concluded timely. Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged the Player of the Match on the back of his five-wicket haul in the first innings. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, with 12 wickets across the two fixtures and a century in the Ahmedabad Test, claimed the Player of the Series title. Moreover, the victory marked India clinching its 10th consecutive Test series victory over West Indies.
