The upcoming Test tour of England marks a new era in Indian cricket as Shubman Gill is set to lead the Indian Test team, which no longer has the comfort of veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Their two most experienced batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, won’t make their presence felt this time around in England. Without them, batting looks a bit inexperienced and there is a concern around how India's batting unit would fare in overcast conditions.

Much like their batting, the bowling unit too consists of a few first-timers in the upcoming series. Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the pack but India no longer have the experience of Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami in that attack. The duo has over 90 Test wickets combined in England but are now past their prime.

That said, let’s take a look at three bowlers from the current squad who have the most Test wickets in England:

  1. Jasprit Bumrah

Matches: 9

Wickets: 37

Average: 26.27

There is no doubt that Jasprit Bumrah will have a massive role to play in the upcoming India tour of England 2025. He won’t be able to play all five Tests due to workload management concerns, as confirmed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Bumrah has an excellent Test record in England.

He has played nine Tests so far in England and has picked 37 wickets at an average of 26.27. In his very first Test match in England, Jasprit Bumrah returned with a five-wicket haul at Trent Bridge on the 2018 tour. However, his finest performance came on the next tour in 2021. He finished as the highest wicket-taker on the tour, claiming 23 wickets at an average of 22.47.

2. Ravindra Jadeja

Matches: 12

Wickets: 27

Average: 43.48

Ravindra Jadeja has often been preferred over Ashwin on England Test tours, owing to his ability to deliver in all facets of the game. Ravindra Jadeja has proven to be a vital asset with the ball in English conditions, especially when the pitch wears out and the ball gets older over the course of a Test match.

He made his first tour to England in the five-match series in 2014. He played in the first four Tests and claimed nine wickets. In the next tour of England in 2018, Jadeja was overlooked in the first four Tests but was part of the XI in the last game.

He returned with the best match figures of 7/258 in England in that Test. Overall, he has 27 wickets to his name in 12 Tests at an average of 43.48.

3. Mohammed Siraj

Matches: 6

Wickets: 23

Average: 35

Mohammed Siraj’s maiden Test series in England came on the 2021 tour of England. He delivered an outstanding performance in the second Test match at Lord’s, returning with match figures of 8 for 128. Siraj finished as India’s second-highest wicket-taker on the tour with 18 wickets in five Tests at an average of 33.00. Siraj picked three four-wicket hauls in that series and has 23 wickets in six Tests, overall, at an average of 34.
