"I'm not leaving": MS Dhoni dashes retirement speculations as IPL 2025 concludes for CSK

"If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22," says MS Dhoni

Every match carries one specific question for MS Dhoni. Now, when the latest campaign came to a conclusion for Chennai Super Kings, the anticipation around Dhoni's decision peaked. However, Dhoni once again reiterated his same stance. The team closed its otherwise disappointing IPL 2025 campaign with a mighty win in the GT vs CSK match. The 83-run victory, however, didn't suffice as CSK finished the season at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL history. Nonetheless, the finish seemed like a promise from CSK to script a fitting comeback next season. But whether MS Dhoni would be a part of this comeback is the question.

MS Dhoni has a cheeky reply to retirement speculations following IPL 2025 conclusion

Following the massive win in the GT vs CSK IPL 2025 match, Harsha Bhogle called the winning captain, MS Dhoni, for the post-match presentation. Bhogle verbalised the thoughts of many as he queried the 43-year-old CSK spinner about his retirement plans. With the fanfare and the endless discussion that surrounds Dhoni, the champion never resorts to creating hype with mystery around his decision. For Dhoni, it's a simple call, one that he has iterated time and again. If his body remains fit, he would return. If not, Dhoni would bid a subtle adieu, maybe many months ahead of the next season.

To answer Harsha's question, Dhoni repeated the same. The CSK skipper appeared in a jolly mood as IPL 2025 concluded with a victory for the team. Dhoni has not made up his mind about the next season, as his conversation suggested. The seasoned wicket-keeper is currently looking forward to returning home, in Ranchi, and riding his bikes. The decision is for a later time to cement, based on his fitness. The skipper cheekily mentioned that if performance is the bar to decide retirement, many players might have been forced to retire at just 22.

"I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back," that's all the hint that MS Dhoni provided for his plans to play the next IPL season.

“I have 4-5 months to decide, there’s no hurry. Need to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best. If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22. Will go back to Ranchi, enjoy a few back rides. I have the luxury of timing. Will think about it and then decide," Dhoni added.
