Akash, who picked up a remarkable 10-wicket haul in the match, said his sister’s strength and positivity inspired him throughout the game. “Her fight gives me strength. This performance is for her,” he said after the match. The touching gesture has resonated widely on social media, with fans praising the pacer for not just his on-field brilliance, but also his emotional resilience and devotion to family.
In a heartfelt interaction with the media, Akash Deep’s sister, Akhand Jyoti Singh, shared a touching glimpse into their bond. She revealed that before India’s tour of England, she had spoken to Akash and urged him not to worry about her health but to stay focused on giving his best for the nation. Battling cancer herself, Jyoti selflessly motivated her brother to concentrate on cricket, reminding him that representing India was a dream worth every ounce of his dedication.
Her words clearly had an impact, as Akash delivered a match-winning performance at Edgbaston, claiming ten wickets and helping level the India vs England Test series. Jyoti expressed immense pride and joy over her brother’s achievement, calling it a moment of happiness for the entire family during challenging times. The emotional backdrop behind Akash's brilliance has touched hearts across the country, making his success all the more inspirational and memorable.
"It is a matter of pride for India - he has taken 10 wickets. Before the England tour, we went to meet him at the airport. I told him, 'I’m absolutely fine, don’t worry about me, just do well for the country.' I am in the third stage (of cancer), and the doctor has said the treatment will go on for six more months, after which we’ll see," Akash Deep's sister said in an exclusive interview.
"It makes me very happy when Akash takes wickets. Whenever he gets a wicket, all of us start clapping and cheering so loudly that the neighbours in the colony ask what has happened!" she laughed.
Jyoti Singh, sister of India pacer Akash Deep, revealed that her cancer diagnosis was something she had kept private and was unaware that her brother had already spoken about it publicly. She was surprised to learn that Akash had shared the news on live television after India’s emphatic victory at Edgbaston. In a heartfelt post-match interview, Akash had emotionally dedicated his maiden 10-wicket haul in Test cricket to his sister, acknowledging her strength and the challenges she was facing.
Jyoti expressed that while the revelation during the Edgbaston Test caught her off guard, she felt deeply moved and proud of her brother’s tribute. She added that Akash’s performance brought a ray of hope and happiness to the family during a tough period. The moment has struck an emotional chord with fans and added a personal and inspiring dimension to Akash Deep’s remarkable achievement on the international stage.
“I had no idea Akash would say something like that. Maybe we weren’t ready to talk about it publicly, but the way he became emotional and said it for me- dedicating it to me - it’s a big deal. It shows how much he loves our family and me. Given the situation at home, and still performing like that and taking wickets there, it’s a huge thing. I’m the one he is closest to,” stated Akash's sister.
