The 12th season of the Pro Kabaddi League is all set to begin on 29th August with a high-voltage encounter between Telugu Titans and Tamil Thalaivas. Haryana Steelers won the last season after beating Patna Pirates in the final. The Steelers were the runners-up in season 10 and went on to lift the title last year. They no longer have the services of Mohammad Reza Shadloui, but have managed to retain most of their core members. Will they be able to defend their title? We will have to wait and see!

Haryana Steelers have announced Jaydeep Dahiya as their captain for the upcoming season.

Runners-up Patna Pirates are the most successful team in the Pro Kabaddi League history. They have won three trophies, but haven’t won a single title since season five. They came close last season but had to finish second. Heading into a new season, Patna Pirates would be demanding no less than a title win from themselves. They have appointed Ankit Jaglan as their captain for the new season.

Dabang Delhi showcased a phenomenal performance last season but went down to Patna Pirates in the semi-final clash. Ahead of a new season, they have retained Ashu Malik as their captain. UP Yoddhas managed to reach the semi-final last season but haven’t played a single final in the tournament’s history. They have stuck to their core group in the upcoming season and have elected Sumit Sangwan as their skipper for PKL 12.

Seasoned campaigner Sumit Kumar will continue to serve as the captain of U Mumba in the upcoming Pro Kabaddi League season. Sumit’s performance was far from satisfactory last season, but the franchise has backed him to lead the team in the new season. U Mumba lifted their maiden PKL title in season 2 but have been searching for the second title since.

Jaipur Pink Panthers were crowned champions of the Pro Kabaddi League in the ninth season and reached the semi-final in the following season. However, the Panthers were knocked out in the Eliminator clash last season. Jaipur have been consistent over the last few years and could be a contender to lift the PKL 12 title. However, they no longer have the services of Arjun Deshwal, and it will be interesting to see how the team fare in his absence. The Jaipur Pink Panthers have announced Nitin Rawal as captain for PKL season 12.

In the absence of Pawan Kumar Sehrawat, the Telugu Titans were led incredibly well by Vijay Malik in PKL season 11. He accumulated the sixth-highest number of raid points and will be a player to watch out for this season. Telugu Titans have appointed Vijay Malik as their captain for the Pro Kabaddi League season 12.

After lifting the title in PKL season 10, Puneri Paltans slumped to number eight in PKL 11. Their disappointing performance was largely due to the absence of their skipper, Aslam Inamdar. Moreover, they had also let go of Shadloui, which also had a massive impact on their performance. Nevertheless, Aslam Inamdar is fully fit and will lead the team once again.

Tamil Thalaivas have historically been one of the underperforming teams in the Pro Kabaddi League. Since making their PKL debut in season five, they have managed to qualify for the playoffs only once. The Thalaivas finished at ninth spot last season with eight wins in 22 games. They have spent a hefty sum to recruit Pawan Kumar Sehrawat for the upcoming season and have also appointed him as the captain.

PKL Season 7 champions Bengal Warriorz will aim to return to the playoffs after four consecutive editions of league stage exits. They have roped in PKL Season 11’s standout raider Devank Dalal as the captain for the new season.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants have appointed Mohammadreza Shadloui as their skipper for the new season. Bengaluru Bulls are yet to name their captain for the upcoming season.
