The United States Grand Prix (USGP) holds an important place in the history of Formula 1. The USGP's roots go back to 1908, when it was known as the American Grand Prize. The race later became part of the Formula One World Championship, with the first official USGP taking place in 1958 at Sebring, Florida.

Over the years, the USGP has been held at various locations across the country, including Sebring (1959), Riverside (1960), Watkins Glen (1961–1980), Long Beach (1976–1983), Las Vegas (1981–1984), Detroit (1982–1988), Phoenix (1989–1991), Indianapolis (2000–2007), Austin, Texas (2012–present). Since 2012, the USGP has been held at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. This purpose-built track, designed by Hermann Tilke, has become a fan favorite, known for its challenging layout and exciting racing. COTA features a distinctive 77-meter observation tower, a landscaped "Grand Plaza" area, the Austin360 Amphitheatre, and a permanent main grandstand that can seat 9,000 fans.

The 5.513 km (3.426 mi) anti-clockwise circuit is renowned for its challenging and diverse layout, which cleverly incorporates elements from some of the world's most famous tracks. The fast and flowing esses in Sector 1 (Turns 3-6) bear a resemblance to the Maggotts and Becketts sequence at Silverstone, while the stadium section in Sector 3 (Turns 12-15) echoes Hockenheim. The USGP is one of the most popular races on the Formula 1 calendar, attracting large and enthusiastic crowds. The race is known for its electric atmosphere, thrilling racing, and entertainment. In 2022, the USGP at COTA attracted a record-breaking 440,000 fans over the weekend.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most wins at the USGP with six victories. Ferrari is the most successful constructor at the USGP with 11 wins. Charles Leclerc takes a dominant win for Ferrari at the 2024 USGP. The United States Grand Prix remains a highlight of the Formula 1 season, reflecting the passion for motorsports in the United States. The race offers a mix of high-speed action, strategic racing, and a lively atmosphere, making it a must-see event for fans around the world.

Beyond Formula 1, COTA hosts a variety of other major motorsport events, including MotoGP's Grand Prix of the Americas and, starting in 2025, a NASCAR Cup Series race on a modified "National" layout. The facility also features a large amphitheater that hosts major music concerts, further cementing its status as a premier entertainment destination. The Formula 1 MSC Cruises United States Grand Prix 2025 is scheduled for October 17-19. Fans can expect another exciting race weekend at this modern circuit that has quickly become an American motorsport icon, blending a challenging track layout with the unique culture of Austin.
