UK Prime Minister hosts F1 at Downing Street ahead of 75th anniversary
What began in 1950 with the first Formula One World Championship race at Silverstone has evolved into one of the world’s most prestigious motorsport series. With many top teams and engineers based in the UK, Formula One has deep roots in British culture and motorsport heritage. Ahead of its 75th anniversary, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hosted an F1 delegation at Downing Street. During the event, both the Prime Minister and F1 President Stefano Domenicali spoke about Formula One’s significant contribution to the United Kingdom’s economy.
The event was attended by several prominent figures:
Stefano Domenicali, President of Formula One
Greg Maffei, President and CEO of Liberty Media
Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science (assuming correct title)
Lisa Nandy, Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport

Both Prime Minister Starmer and Domenicali addressed a gathering of young engineers, interns, scholars, apprentices, and graduates representing F1’s ten teams. In his remarks, Domenicali expressed appreciation for the historic setting and highlighted the passion of British fans:
“A special thank you to the Prime Minister for inviting us here today to this famous and historic setting.
We have an incredible week ahead at the British Grand Prix with nearly half a million fans coming to cheer on their heroes. This country is passionate about Formula 1 and motorsport, and we are very proud of this.
