The goal is always to win, but losing won't be a failure: Lando Norris

Despite his great start to the season and the team's impressive performance, McLaren’s Lando Norris has stated that it would not be a failure if they did not win the Formula 1 World Championship in 2025. Norris has won three races this year, including a commanding victory at the most recent Austrian Grand Prix. He is now ranked second in the drivers' standings, only 15 points behind teammate Oscar Piastri.

While the McLaren MCL39 has proven to be a formidable contender, sharing eight wins between its drivers, Norris remains pragmatic about the championship battle. The British driver highlights F1's continuous evolution and competitive nature, as evidenced by his decision to extend his contract with McLaren into 2025.

"Of course, the goal is always to win, and we're pushing incredibly hard," Norris stated. "But if it doesn't happen this year, it's not a failure. We're still a young team in terms of fighting at the very front consistently, and the progress we've made is immense."

Norris, who has amassed 7 career wins and 35 podiums but no championships so far, understands the monumental challenge of clinching the coveted title. With the season still unfolding and rivals like Max Verstappen still a factor, despite a recent retirement, the focus remains on maximizing every opportunity.
