The entire footballing world, fans and neutrals alike, has been captivated by Lamine Yamal’s performances across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s recent victories, including their Champions League quarter-final win against Borussia Dortmund, the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, and the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan, which ended in a 3-3 draw. While many are calling him the best among the current crop of young talents, Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram offered a different perspective, stating that Yamal is not the best. Thuram said:

In an interview, Marcus Thuram stated that the best player in the world is a French international and not Lamine Yamal. He remarked that the top two spots are held by French players, with Yamal possibly ranking third. Thuram named Ousmane Dembélé and Kylian Mbappé as the two best players in the world.

No, he's not

The best player in the world is French. And the second is also French. Ousmane and Kylian. Yamal is maybe third

In the ongoing campaign, Lamine Yamal has been instrumental in Barcelona’s title charge. He has already played 100 games for Barcelona, an achievement in itself. He also broke the record of being the youngest player to score a goal in the semifinals of the competition. He was 17 years & 291 days old when he scored the goal which was earlier held by Kylian Mbappe, who had scored the goal at the age of 18 years & 140 days.

How did Marcus Thuram fare against Barcelona?

Marcus Thuram delivered one of his finest performances in an Inter Milan shirt during the Champions League, scoring the fastest goal at this stage of the competition, finding the net just 30 seconds into the first leg of the semifinals. So far this season, Thuram has tallied 18 goals and nine assists across all competitions for Inter Milan.

His support for Ousmane Dembélé in the ongoing campaign comes as no surprise, as Dembélé has scored 33 goals this season. He currently ranks as the fourth-highest goalscorer across Europe’s top five leagues, trailing only Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappé.
