Viktor Gyökeres reveals three Arsenal stars he's impressed with
27-year-old Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres has been in headlines due to his excellent goal fest for Sporting CP in the past season. He carried his club to the league title for two consecutive seasons and also became the league's top scorer on both occasions. Recently, the goal poacher has been in talks to join Premier League club Arsenal FC ahead of the 2025/26 season.
His club, Sporting CP, is not letting the deal go through, but the player is trying his best to head to the Gunners. Arsenal are keen on signing Gyökeres, who has made it clear he wants the move. However, talks have been tough, with the deal expected to cost around €80 million ($93.5m). Amid the transfer talks, Viktor Gyökeres showcased his admiration for his next club and named three players who have impressed him in the Arsenal camp.
In a recent interview with L’Équipe, a French publication, he stated,
“Midfielders like Bernardo Silva, (Mateo) Kovacic at (Manchester) City, or Saka at Arsenal are impressive to watch.”
Viktor added,
“I’ve also faced some very high-level defenders, like Gabriel and Saliba. I was lucky to play against those kinds of players.”
In his attempt to join the new club, Viktor Gyökeres has boycotted the pre-season camp with Sporting CP, hoping to get the move forward after tough negotiations between the two clubs. In the 2024/25 season, the showman managed to score 54 goals and provide 13 assists in 52 matches for Sporting CP. The striker is known for his pace, physicality, and acceleration, which helps him to exploit spaces between the defenders. He plays as a target man by using his strength in aerial duels and ground battles.
If Viktor moves to Arsenal FC, he will be a crucial asset for the side as they lack a proper number 9, who can finish the chances that are created by their excellent midfield players. Upon asking about his future, Viktor Gyökeres stated,
“That’s football, you never know. I’m not thinking about it, we’ll see what happens. If something has to happen, it will. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.”
