'They are number one’ – Mohamed Salah predicts 2025-26 Premier League winners
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has claimed that Arsenal are favourites to win the English Premier League title this season. Salah said that there hasn't been too much chopping and changing in the Arsenal squad, and the players have been playing together for a few seasons now. Besides, head coach Mikel Arteta has been at the helm for nearly five years now.
The Gunners have finished second on the points tally for the last three successive seasons. Arsenal fell behind Liverpool in the 2024-25 season. On the previous two occasions, it was Manchester City who won the Premier League titles.
"That team, I have said it a few times, today and also at the PFA Awards, I said they are the favourites because they have a team that has played [together] for five, six years. So, they understand each other’s game. And, they also have a manager with the team for five, six years. When the team’s stuck together for that long, they know each other’s game, so it becomes easier for them." Salah told Sky Sports.
"But other teams like us and [Manchester] City, change a lot of players, which is sometimes tricky. But again, teams with Pep Guardiola, they are always the favourites. But of course, my opinion is this year Arsenal are number one." Salah added.
Arsenal have made an impressive start to the 2024-25 Premier League season. They beat Manchester United 1-0 in the season opener, followed by a more impressive 5-0 win over Leeds United. Arsenal are set to face Liverpool in a high-octane clash on Sunday at Anfield. The former have also enjoyed back-to-back wins in their first two games of the new season.
Mohamed Salah led the Premier League 2024-25 goalscoring chart with 29 goals
The 2024-25 Premier League season was nothing short of outstanding for Liverpool. He led the goal-scoring tally with 29 goals to his name. He barely missed a game where he didn’t score a goal. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak was second on the tally with 23 strikes.
With that, Mohamed Salah also became the first player in Premier League history to be involved in 40-plus goals in two different seasons. The 2017-18 season saw him score 32 goals and 10 assists.
