Roy Keane predicts a new title holder for Premier League 2025–26 season; picks top five
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League in the 2025-26 season. The Gunnners have finished second for the last three consecutive seasons. In the first two seasons, Manchester City won back-to-back titles, while Liverpool won the Premier League title last season.
Roy Keane reckons Liverpool will finish in second place this time around, while Manchester City will end their campaign at third. Chelsea delivered some notable performances last season, culminating in a fourth-place finish, while Newcastle United reached fifth at the end of the season. Keane said that the two teams will exchange their positions, meaning Chelsea will finish fifth, while Newcastle United will finish fourth this season.
Manchester City, Liverpool begin 2025-26 campaign on a winning note
The winners of last season Liverpool began their Premier League defense with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth at Anfield on August 15. Hugo Ekitike scored the opening goal for the defending champions, while Cody Gakpo doubled the lead in the second half. Later on, Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah found the back of the net to end the game with a two-goal advantage.
Manchester City, who would be keen to reclaim the title, have also started their season on a winning note. Wolverhampton Wanderers seemed short of ideas as Manchester City secured a commanding 4-0 win in their opening encounter. Erling Haaland scored twice on the opening day, while debutant Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki scored one each as well.
Meanwhile, Arsenal locked horns with Manchester United in their opening game of the Premier League 2025-26 season at Old Trafford Stadium on Sunday. They secured a 1-0 win, with the only goal coming in the 13th minute of the match via a header from Riccardo Calafiori.
Chelsea played out a goalless draw against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in their opening game on Sunday. Newcastle United’s opening game also resulted in a 0-0 draw in an away fixture against Aston Villa on 16th August 2025.
