Real Madrid announce squad for the FIFA Club World Cup
The revamped FIFA Club World Cup is set to begin on June 14 with the clash between Inter Miami and Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium. Teams from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East are preparing to travel to the United States for the tournament. Ahead of the competition, Real Madrid have announced their first squad under the leadership of Xabi Alonso. The squad includes several first-team players, new signings made under Alonso, and Real Madrid Castilla players who have joined the senior team after the Club World Cup transfer window closed on Tuesday.
While Real Madrid had attempted and succeeded in securing the early release of Trent Alexander Arnold for the tournament, Dean Huijsen, a new signing, will be part of the campaign. Veteran Luka Modric will also feature, although he is expected to leave the club after the tournament.
A start of the Xabi Alonso era at Santiago Bernabeu?
When Xabi Alonso took up management, it was widely anticipated that he would one day lead Real Madrid from the sidelines. After a successful stint in Germany, Xabi now looks to make his mark with the Spanish club. The squad reflects a similar tactical blueprint to the one that brought him success in Germany. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the expectations and pressure that come with managing a club of Real Madrid’s stature.
