Ousmane Dembele wins the "Champions League Player of the Season" Award
The 2024/25 season was indifferent. It was the season where the teams with trophy drought won the titles. PSG was one of the teams that ended their European trophy drought with them winning the Champions League in a dominant manner. The French giants have aimed to get their hands over the last decade, ever since the Qatari takeover, but it took them more time than expected to win it. They moved from a star-studded lineup featuring Messi, Mbappé, and Neymar to a cohesive team — and it’s the team players who ultimately delivered the title.
Ousmane Dembélé’s contribution has been remarkable for the team, with eight goals and six assists. He is now awarded “Champions League Player of the Season” with the technical observer committee giving the heads-up. The technical observer group comprising Gareth Southgate, Roberto Martinez, and Rafa Benitez opined that the player took the role of a leader in the PSG team with him working hard upfront. They also mentioned that his movements and pace created doubts in the minds of the opposition, helping the French outfit to win the elusive title. The committee reported:
As well as his eight goals, Dembele has taken on the role of a leader in the Paris Saint-Germain team, as we saw in the final with how he worked so hard, pressing from the front.
On top of that, he created doubts for their opponents match after match with his clever movement, dropping deep to give his team superiority in the midfield.
In the finals, Ousmane Dembélé did not score the goal but went on to help his side out with his pace at the center of the pitch as well as recycling the ball in front of the opposition. His Ballon d’Or charge is real.
What did Ousmane Dembele mention about the Champions League triumph?
Speaking to the media, Dembélé mentioned it is exceptional to win the trophy but winning it 5-0 makes it merrier. He also mentioned that they deserved this trophy after years of hardship and battles. Dembélé said:
It’s exceptional, what just happened. Winning finals is great, but doing it in this way is even better, it’s even more thrilling. Honestly, we deserve it. After so many years of hardship and battles, I think Paris St Germain truly deserves this victory,
