Matheus Cunha breaks silence on joining ‘crisis’ club Manchester United
Manchester United are currently in dire straits and hoping for a dramatic turnaround in their fortunes ahead of a new season. They have made some key signings in the summer transfer window and Brazilian footballer Matheus Cunha is one of them. Manchester United signed him from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer transfer window, handing him a five-year contract on June 1st, 2025.
Ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season clash against the West Ham United, Matheus Cunha was asked about the pressure that comes with being associated with Man United, that is trying to rise back from the Ashes. Cunha, rather, sees it as a privilege to be part of a legendary club like United.
“I really think the pressure of this club is not really pressure. It's a privilege, because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and like I say, when Ruben comes to me and shows all the pressure that I have to put the club in the perfect times again, I feel like it's a challenge that I want to do for my career. And for me, United is always one of the clubs that need to be there, and for someone that can be part of the process is something that, like I say, is a big privilege." Matheus Cunha told reporters.
"I'm very comfortable to be here" - Matheus Cunha on being part of United
The 2024-25 Premier League season ended in a disastrous fashion for Manchester United. The club finished 15th in the Premier League, winning only 11 games out of 38 fixtures. They managed to amass 42 points – their worst tally in several decades. Table toppers Liverpool finished with 84 points. Leading up to the new season, Matheus Cunha finds comfort in being part of the United team rather than thinking about the crises they are in right now.
“So I don't think about being perfect at the start, honestly, I think to be myself and help the team. But of course, the first time I start to feel I'm part of the group, we start to do everything very well, and then think about doing everything well. So I'm very comfortable to be here, I'm very comfortable with the press right now, and honestly, I hope everything can be better, too. Don’t think about the wrong time.” Cunha added.
The Red Devils will begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Arsenal at Old Trafford Stadium on 17th August.
