Marcus Rashford willing to accept pay cut to facilitate a transfer to Barcelona
According to recent reports, Marcus Rashford is prepared to take a pay cut if a particular club comes forward with a contract offer. The English forward, currently sidelined at Manchester United and on loan at Aston Villa, had a promising start at Villa Park but has since struggled for regular game time in the league. Despite that, Aston Villa are reportedly pleased with his performances and are expected to activate the option to buy him for a pre-set fee of £40 million (USD 53.1 million). However, fresh interest from Barcelona has shifted Rashford’s focus.
The player has reportedly instructed his super-agent, Pini Zahavi, to explore a potential move to the Catalan club. Rashford is said to be willing to accept a significant wage reduction from his current £300,000-per-week salary at Manchester United to facilitate the move. If any other club wants to secure his services, they have to match his wages.
Despite Rashford’s willingness, a transfer to Barcelona remains complicated. The Spanish giants are still facing financial difficulties, and even with the player’s reduced wage demands, signing him could be a challenge. Earlier this year, the Spanish government had to step in to help Barcelona register players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor due to the club exceeding its wage budget.
What had Ruben Amorim mentioned before Rashford’s departure to Aston Villa on loan to the media?
Previously, during the winter transfer window, Ruben Amorim made it clear that he demands full commitment from his players. He stated that if a player is not giving 100 percent in training and matches, he would rather not include them in the squad. Emphasizing his stance, Amorim said that even though the team lacked pace in a particular game, he would rather play his goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, before selecting an uncommitted player. He said:
Today on the bench we missed a bit of pace to change the game but I prefer it like this, I will put (in) Vital before I put (in) a player who doesn't give the maximum every day, so I will not change in that department.
