Manchester United continue to bolster its attacking personnel, reportedly signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth £65 million. The 13-time Premier League title holders spent a hefty sum of money, hoping for an inspiring comeback, having failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The versatile Mbeumo can operate in different roles on the flanks or in central attacking areas. His pace, creativity, and clinical finishing come as a major boost to United. The fans will hope that Bryan Mbeumo could solve their striker problems, having displayed a remarkable outing for Brentford. Cameroon winger scored 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season. Overall, he boasts 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances across competition in six years for the club.

Tottenham Hotspur were also keen to acquire the 25-year-old’s services, but Manchester United eventually had the better of them, coming up with a better offer. In addition to the transfer fee, Manchester United will also be paying an additional £6 million in add-ons to Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo is Manchester United’s third signing since the end of last season of the Premier League after Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon.

Manchester United finish 15th in the 2024-25 Premier League season

United endured a horrendous outing in the 2024-25 season, finishing 15th in the Premier League standings- their worst since the 1973-74 season. Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkze failed to make an impact in front of goal, adding further misery to Amorim.

They had the chance to qualify for next year’s Champions League, but a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur ruined all hopes. As per reports, Alejandro Garnacho has been asked to look for a new home, while the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are also making their way elsewhere, following loan spells with Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.

Manchester United began their pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against Leeds United in Stockholm. Following the draw, coach Ruben Amorim showered praise on their latest signing, Matheus Cunha’s performance.

“I think Matheus Cunha showed what we need, that he’s the player when he receives the ball between the lines he can be really aggressive in the direction of the opponent.” Amorim told MUTV.
