Liverpool continue to keep their eyes on the transfer developments across the globe. The side are linked with the likes of Florian Wirtz in a blockbuster deal of over £100 million. Now, they are also reportedly interested in Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, who is expected to command a similar fee.  Recent reports suggest that Liverpool are chasing Antony Gordon’s signature in a deal worth £100 million. The report read:

LIVERPOOL are weighing up a £100million move for Newcastle star Anthony Gordon. Talks were held last summer over an Anfield switch as Toon looked to bring in cash to satisfy Prem financial rules.

The former Toffees player, Antony Gordon, was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer of 2024. However, the deal did not materialize but gave Liverpool an additional year to assess the financial viability of securing his services. A recent report suggests that Newcastle United would have done the deal last summer compared to now, as they were struggling to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League.

How did Antony Gordon fare in the 2024/25 season?

While the returns were not great for the former Evertonian, Antony Gordon was successful in his playmaking by creating the chances. In the Premier League, Gordon featured in 34 games and created 51 chances. Amidst these, he also bagged six goals and five assists to his name. He gave nightmares to the opposition fullbacks on the left flank. After his £45 million move from Everton in January 2024, Gordon signed a new contract with the club last November.

Why are Liverpool behind Antony Gordon?

While the Merseysiders are in pole position to complete the deal for Florian Wirtz, the potential departure of Luis Diaz has made the deal interesting. They were previously linked with Paris St Germain’s Bracola, but the French outfit is not ready to part ways with the player. While the interest is still there, Liverpool might revive the deal negotiations soon to bring Gordon to Merseyside.
