Lionel Messi etches his name in the MLS history books
Inter Miami broke their losing streak in Major League Soccer with a clinical win over Montreal on Thursday. The side registered a comprehensive 4-2 victory against Montreal with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez scoring a brace against their opposition. With these two goals, Lionel Messi has etched his name in the history books. He now holds the record of 50 goal contributions in a regular season for Miami in their history. Ever since his move to the United States of America, the 37-year-old has bagged 29 goals and 21 assists.
The Herons desperately needed three points and had to rely on the Argentine to get over the line. He did not disappoint the side that had come off a losing streak in the recent games. Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute and the scoreline remained the same up until the hour mark when Luis Suarez added a goal to his tally and doubled the lead. While Suarez scored the goal in the 71st minute, it was Seay’s 74th-minute goal for Montreal which made it tough for Inter Miami to conclude the game. Lionel Messi stepped in and put the game to bed with his goal in the 87th minute. This was his 11th goal contribution in the ongoing season.
What did Javier Mascherano say about Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi post the win?
Talking to the media, Javier Mascherano, the gaffer, mentioned that he is happy for both Lionel Messi and Suarez. Suarez has been going through a lean patch in front of the goal, and the brace would be a welcome boost for the player as well as the outfit. He said:
As for Luis, I am very happy for him. He has so many goals in his career. Sometimes he doesn't have the chance to play a few games without scoring,
Javier Mascherano also applauded the efforts of Luis Suarez, even when he is not getting the goal. Mascherano said:
I think that must be strange. But there's another part of Luis, the effort, the desire and never tries to put his arms down. That is also very important when it comes to impacting the team. Hopefully they can continue with this dynamic.
