Jonathan David Signs for Juventus Until 2030
Jonathan David has ended all speculation about his future by signing a five-year deal with Juventus. The deal will see the 25-year-old remain with the Italian giants until the summer of 2030. David previously spent five years with French club Lille and went on to score 87 Ligue 1 goals from 178 appearances. In that time, he established himself as one of the most in-demand forwards across Europe’s top five leagues.
In his first season with Lille, David played a key role in helping the club upset PSG and win the French top-flight title.
"Growing up as a kid, I always looked up to a club like Juventus and thought, this is probably one of the top 10 biggest clubs in the world," David told the official Bianconeri website.
"So, for me to be sitting here today is an honour.
One of David’s main strengths is his versatility as he can operate as both a second striker and an attacking midfielder. Blessed with tactical intelligence, he is very effective when it comes to playing counter-attacking football. He can effectively win back the ball and is also an adept defender when he needs to retreat into playing more defensive football. David’s journey in Europe began in 2018 when he joined Belgian club Gent from Ottawa Internationals in his native Canada.
Before signing with Gent, his talent was recognized by European clubs as he also had trials with RB Salzburg and VFB Stuttgart. But both clubs opted not to sign him. On the international stage, David has been a member of the Canada national team since 2018. He has played a key role in spearheading the rise of his national team from being international minnows to a respected force in both North American and International football.
There is little doubt that if fit, David will play a crucial role in Canada’s 2026 World Cup plans. Canada is due to co-host the 2026 World Cup along with the United States and Mexico as the tournament comes back to North America for the first time since 1994 when the US hosted it.
