Inzaghi applauds Lamine Yamal after the first leg of the Champions League fixture
It was one of the best nights of the ongoing campaign of the UEFA Champions League. While the first semifinal ended up in a 1-0 win to Paris St Germain, the second semifinal saw goals galore at Camp Nou. While the game ended 3-3 with both teams set out to settle the debate at San Siro on next Tuesday, it was Lamine Yamal who startled the viewers and gave joy to the Barcelona fans and neutrals.
Simone Inzaghi, the gaffer of Inter, was also in shock at the quality that oozes out of Lamine Yamal. He went on to applaud the player and also mentioned that he has not seen a player like Yamal in the last eight years. Yamal was a threat on the field, creating chances and scoring goals. While Barcelona went two behind, Yamal sparked a comeback for his side with a goal in the 24th minute. Talking to the media, Inzaghi said:
I haven't seen a player like Yamal in the last eight or nine years
Inzaghi also mentioned that he had put three players to contain the Spaniard which eventually led to compromise on the other part of the field. However, he noted that the teenager could not sustain the momentum throughout the second half, which helped Inter to amplify their game. Inzaghi said:
We had to put three players on him, and naturally that opened up space in other areas,
After that, his level dropped a bit, and our second half was of very high quality
What did Inzaghi say about Barcelona in the post-match press conference?
Talking about the opposition, Inzaghi mentioned that Barcelona are going strong at the moment across all competitions while having scored over 150 goals. He said that they are competing for two more titles and are a stronger side but his side matched the intensity throughout. Inzaghi said:
They've scored more than 150 goals, won two titles, and are still competing for two more. But our performance was of a very high standard
What next for Inter Milan?
Inter will head back to San Siro to host Verona in the Serie A fixture, where they are now three points behind the table toppers, Napoli before they face Barcelona in the second leg.
