'Even for a Messi, it's complicated', says Javier Mascherano following Inter Miami defeat in the FIFA Club World Cup
Following a 4-0 thrashing against Paris St Germain, Inter Miami’s gaffer has opened up about how it felt over the loss. Paris St Germain did not show any mercy to the United States-based outfit as they steamrolled their opponent. Following the defeat, Javier Mascherano conceded that even for Messi, the game was complicated. Speaking to the media, Javier Mascherano applauded Lionel Messi’s contribution to the game. He mentioned that Lionel Messi had a great game despite the few opportunities they had as a team.
Mascherano also mentioned that it is his honor to coach one of the best footballers in the history of the game.
I think Leo played a great game with the few opportunities we had,"
"We played a lot more on the counter-attack in the second half. I think that today, at 38 years old, it's an honour to coach [Messi].
Speaking about the game, he mentioned that Paris St. Germain was too hot to handle and mentioned that even for Messi, the game was quite complicated. Mascherano applauded Paris St Germain and Luis Enrique for their fine performance. Mascherano also compared PSG’s current side to Barcelona and wished them the very best. He said:
"But against a PSG at this level, even for a Messi, it's complicated."
"They're a great team. We'll see if they can last. But today, they have quality with a great coach. "I'm not going to go back on the relationship I have with him. I hope they are like Barcelona and play at this level for a long time. We'll see over time."
The game was over in the first half itself with Paris St Germain scoring all four goals. The French outfit managed to have 67% of possession and nine shots on target.
