Estevao shares Cole Palmer’s words after emotional final game against Chelsea
Incoming Chelsea player Estevao Willian has revealed what his soon-to-be team-mate Cole Palmer said to him as Chelsea and Palmeiras played in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. Chelsea won the game 2-1 in what was Estevao’s last match for Palmeiras. Estevao, however, gave a good audition to his soon-to-be employers as he netted a goal. After Estevao delivered a strong performance, a group of Chelsea players circled Estevao after the game, including Palmer.
“I had to ask [Dário] Essugo what Cole had said to me,” Estevao said. “He laughed a bit before translating, telling me, ‘Cole said he’s excited for you and wants you to come with us after the game’.”
Estevao also paid tribute to Palmeiras whom he now leaves.
“I wanted to stay some more time with my team pals,” he said. “I came here with them. And I should go back to Brazil with them. My heart is broken because only we know how hard we worked.
“But I leave with pride. And I am happy to have a giant club as Chelsea opening its doors to me. I just wanted to show my new fans in England who I am. That it is all. I hope to learn. I am sure I come to London to evolve, and to make history there too.”
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will certainly be looking forward to working with Estevao. The Blues had a successful past season as they ended up qualifying for the Champions League after a few years of inconsistency. 18-year-old Estevao is one of the most exciting young players in football and is a major coup for the Blues.
With a return to the Champions League secured, the Blues will look to challenge for major trophies including the Premier League title. They have amazing depth which means that despite his talent, Estevao might not immediately walk into the lineup. Two other stars whom Chelsea have signed ahead of the new season include Jamie Gittens and João Pedro. They will compete against the likes of Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto for a place in the team.
