Donald Trump kept the FIFA Club World Cup trophy; Chelsea lifted the replica
In a stunning revelation, FIFA Club World Cup 2025 winners Chelsea celebrated their win with a replica trophy and not the original win. US President Donald Trump revealed that the original trophy has been kept in the ‘Oval Office’ and will stay there permanently. Notably, the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino officially unveiled and demonstrated the trophy to Donald Trump on 7th March 2025 at the Oval Office in the White House.
The trophy stayed there itself. The FIFA president asked Trump to keep it as they would prepare a new one for the winners. During an interview with DAZN at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, Trump narrated his side of the story behind keeping the trophy at his office.
“They said, ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’ We put it in the Oval Office,” Trump said. “And then I said, ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy?’ He says, ‘We're never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We're making a new one.’”
“And they actually made a new one. So that was quite exciting…It’s in the Oval right now,” he added.
There has not been any official statement made by FIFA on the issue. The FIFA Club World Cup took place from 16th June to 14th July 2025. 32 clubs from six continental confederations took part in the competition with Chelsea winning the title after beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.
In another surprising moment, Donald Trump stood alongside Chelsea players during their celebration. The FIFA president asked him to step aside after handing over the trophy to the players but Trump refused to leave the podium and chose to be part of the celebration. The fans didn’t like that and critisized the US president on the social media platform 'X'.
Later, Chelsea’s star performer Cole Palmer also expressed his surprise over Trump’s willingness to celebrate with the team and his refusal to step aside after handing over the trophy.
“I knew he was going to be there, but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused,” Palmer said, adding to the general surprise among the Chelsea squad.
