Manchester United’s torrid season ended with a win over the Hong Kong national team as a part of their friendlies but results did not go their way throughout the Premier League or the Europa League campaign. The team struggled for consistency as they failed to rake up two consecutive wins in the league. Amidst all this, the players during their friendlies in Asia did not respond properly to the fans, aiding the disappointment of many. Former Manchester United player David Beckham was critical of the club and the players while expressing his disappointment.

Speaking to the media, David Beckham called out the behavior of the players and their performances. He mentioned that performance on the pitch is important, but they also represent the badge off the pitch as well. The former English player mentioned that the players must respect the badge but they are not doing it at the moment. He said:

I don't like seeing what's happening at the club

It's true that it's the pitch that matters, but I see a lot of things that are not acceptable to me as a fan and a lover of Manchester United. You have to represent the badge. I've seen a lot of things where players didn't act in the right way. We understood what it meant to play for Manchester United. We understood what the badge meant.

Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo were found in altercations during their trip to South East Asia where they played Hong Kong and Asean XI. While they endured the defeat against Asean XI, they were able to muster a 3-1 win over Hong Kong.

However, some of the players found themselves in an unhealthy interaction with the fans. Garnacho didn't like the fact that a fan was filming him and he pushed him aside. On the other hand, Diallo hurled abuses at a fan, who allegedly made a vulgar comment about his mother. Beckham didn't like the behaviour of some of the players and urged them to show respect to fans, who only come to see them play. He said:

Everywhere we travelled, whether in Europe or Asia, we respected the fans. We respected the fact that they came and paid money to see us, to get an autograph or to take pictures. You have to respect that."

What is the update from Manchester United?

Manchester United have announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after they triggered the release clause. This is the club’s one of the few first-day signings in their history.
