Why is Ryan Rickelton not playing GT vs MI IPL 2025 match? Check MI Playing 11
The important news update is that the Mumbai Indians (MI) will miss the services of their premier wicket-keeper batter Ryan Ricketon in the Eliminator clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season scheduled against the Gujarat Titans (GT) being played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Mumbai Indians once again started another IPL season with a few consistent defeats, however, they made a phenomenal comeback by registering six consecutive wins to qualify for the knockouts stage. However, the five-time champions will have to come up with three sensational performances to win their record sixth title.
Why is Ryan Rickelton not playing today's GT vs MI IPL 2025 match?
It is a massive blow for the Mumbai Indians as their premier overseas opening batter Ryan Rickelton is unavailable for the crucial knockout encounter against the Gujarat Titans on Friday. Incidentally, Rickelton has already left for South Africa in order to prepare for the all-important ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final 2025 against Australia scheduled to begin from June 11. Earlier Cricket South Africa (CSA) had confirmed that all of the Proteas cricketers will not be available for the IPL 2025 playoffs due to national duty.
While opening the batting alongside Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton has contributed with some amazing performances. The South African wicket-keeper batter has smashed a blistering total of 388 runs from 14 matches at a fine strike-rate of over 150 that consists of as many as three half-centuries. In his absence, English batter Jonny Bairstow has been included in the MI playing 11 and will also take over as the wicket-keeper.
"We're going to bat. Looks like a different track to yesterday. Bit of less grass. Big game, scoring runs and defending would be nice. We all are aware, for the last 9 games we have been playing it like a knockout. Really need to turn up today and focus on the things which we can control. We've got three changes: Jonny comes back, Gleeson makes his debut and Raj Angad Bawa plays," said Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya during the toss.
