In an important news development, the Gujarat Titans (GT) are not playing their premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada in the high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Gujarat Titans will be feeling very much high on confidence as they are coming into this match after having registered an impressive 38-run victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their most recent outing. The Shubman Gill-led GT team are currently placed at the fourth position on the points table with as many as 7 wins from their 11 matches in the ongoing edition of the T20 tournament. 

Why is Kagiso Rabada not playing today's MI vs GT IPL 2025 match?

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill revealed that their premier overseas speedster Kagiso Rabada is not part of the GT playing XI in this match against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. Incidentally, the South African pacer has already served his suspension period and was available for selection in this Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans IPL 2025 match. Shubman further noted that they wanted him to get a few more practice sessions before getting back to match fitness. 

South Africa's premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was recently handed a provisional suspension by the Cricket South Africa (CSA) after testing positive for a recreational drug. It has reportedly been revealed that the Proteas speedster used the prohibited drug during the last season of the SA20 competition where he was representing the MI Cape Town team. However, Cricket South Africa has already given the clean chit to the fast bowler, however, the Gujarat Titans want their cricketer to have some time off before being once again part of the Indian Premier League 2025 season. 

"We will bowl first. I don't think the wicket will change much, got to have a total on the board and then chase it. It's all about delivering our best as a team. We have one change. Arshad comes back for Sundar. Rabada is back (in the squad), but he will need a few practice sessions and a few games to get back in his groove. We are fortunate that we can use Kishore when needed. We have 6-7 bowling options," said Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill during the toss.
