The day is finally here for the action to resume in IPL 2025. The season was suspended for a week as India-Pakistan picked pace earlier this month. However, a swift ceasefire ensured that the halt didn't last more than a week. The revised schedule included 13 matches at the league stage before the playoffs commenced. Moreover, the final was pushed ahead to June 3 from the originally slated May 25. The IPL 2025 resumption was supposed to kick off with the RCB vs KKR match. However, heavy rain in Bengaluru curbed the action even before it could start, as the match was abandoned. Now, the season is set to finally take off again with the RR vs PBKS IPL 2025 match.

Mitchell Owen set to make his IPL debut in the RR vs PBKS IPL 2025 match

The resumption of IPL 2025 has witnessed many overseas prospects dropping out of the season due to international commitments. As Rajasthan Royals host the higher-ranked Punjab Kings in Jaipur, the home team will have to deal with the absence of their primary pacer, Jofra Archer. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have played Australian youngster Mitchell Owen in their combination for the afternoon fixture. Unlike the entry of Kwena Maphaka in the RR Playing XI, Owen joined the PBKS camp before IPL 2025 was suspended.

Punjab Kings signed Mitch Owen as an injury replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who fractured his finger ahead of the suspension. The 23-year-old Australian made waves with his onslaught for Hobart Hurricanes in the last season of the Big Bash League. The youngster smashed 108 runs off just 42 deliveries in the BBL 2024/25 final against Sydney Thunder.

Owen wrapped up the season as the highest run-scorer, with two centuries in his account. Owen finished the season with 452 runs from 11 innings, scoring at an average of 45.20 and a strike rate of 203.60. Owen also bowls medium pace and has 10 wickets in 20 innings in T20s.

Following his breakthrough BBL stint, Owen made his way to the PSL, where he joined the Peshawar Zalmi squad. Meanwhile, PBKS could sign Owen as an injury replacement because the Australian had registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction before failing to make the cut. At the time of his signing as an injury replacement, Owen's participation in IPL 2025 would have shaped up after the conclusion of the PSL season for Peshawar Zalmi, anticipated to be on May 18.

However, the halt in IPL 2025 provided ample time for the youngster to join and train in the Punjab Kings camp before he was named in the PBKS Playing XI. As it stands, Mitchell Owen is set to mark his IPL debut in the RR vs PBKS IPL 2025 match in Jaipur.
