Australian women’s team captain Alyssa Healy mentioned that Shubman Gill gets uncomfortable when the opposition teams comes at him hard to unsettle him. Gill didn’t have a great outing with the bat in the third Test match against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground. He scored consecutive centuries in the first Test and followed it up with a double-century in the second Test match at Edgbaston, leading to a 336-run win for India.

However, he struggled to make an impact in the third Test, registering scores of 16 and 6. Notably, the hosts got under his skin with aggressive sledging, trying to disrupt his focus in the Lord’s Test. At the stroke of stumps on Day 4, he was involved in a heated moment with Zak Crawley as the latter was trying to bide his time so that India couldn’t bowl more overs in the day.

In the next innings, when Gill came out to bat, the hosts gave him a tough time at the crease. Gill was trapped leg-before by Brydon Carse after facing nine deliveries, scoring just six runs.

“I read some stuff about when teams go hard at (Shubman) Gill, it can rattle him a little bit. So if England have got even half a sniff at that, then that’s exactly what’s going to happen, knowing how successful he was in those first two Test matches, there’s a way to get under his skin a little bit,” Healy said on Willow Talk Podcast.

“Teams generally go hard at the skipper. If you can get the skipper cheaply or get under their skin and rattle a few cages in that regard, then you feel you are on your way. So if England sniffs even a little bit of weakness there, they’ll ram that home. They’ll go hard,” Healy added.

Shubman Gill is the highest run-scorer in 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

Notably, Shubman Gill is the leading run-getter in the ongoing Test series. He has scored three centuries and a double-century in three Tests. He has scored 607 runs at an average of 101.17 in the series.

India would be hoping that he continues his fine run with the bat heading into a must-win fourth Test at Emirates Oval Ground in Manchester. The Test match begins on 23rd July 2025. England won the first Test by five wickets, but India made it 1-1 after registering a 336-run win in the second Test match. They had the chance to take a 2-1 lead but failed to chase down a 193-run total on the final day of the Lord’s Test.
