"We haven't achieved anything yet", says Ricky Ponting after win over MI
After 11 years, Punjab Kings have made it to the playoffs of an Indian Premier League edition. Shreyas Iyer and Co. beat Mumbai Indians comprehensively by seven wickets to seal a top-two finish on Monday. After restricting MI to 184, the Kings chased down the score in just 18.3 overs, courtesy of a sensational 109-run partnership between Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis.
They outclassed the five-time champions in all departments and ensured they got two chances of making it into the final. Punjab have been one of the most dangerous teams in the competition this season, given that most of their players have put invaluable contributions to the cause. In 14 matches, they have registered wins in 10 games and now find themselves at the top of the points table. However, head coach Ricky Ponting insisted that they ‘haven’t achieved anything yet.’ As the coach of the side, Ponting is ensuring that his players shouldn't get carried away and stay focused.
“I mean yeah, it's a great achievement till now but really, if you look back, we haven't achieved anything yet,” Ponting told JioHotstar. “That’s the one thing I've been saying to the players since the moment we qualified.”
“This is a really talented team that are all on the same page and heading in the same direction. The vision was always to finish in the top two — we’ve got there now. But we’ve got another week to go.” the Australian added.
Punjab Kings have sealed their place in the qualifier 1 encounter, scheduled on Thursday in Chandigarh.
