[Watch] Shimron Hetmyer smashes last-ball six to Pollard in MLC; internet erupts

The 18th match between Seattle Orcas and MI New York in the Major League Cricket 2025 turned out to be a nail-biter. Over 460 runs were scored in the match, headlined by top knocks from Nicholas Pooran, Tajinder Dhillon and a glorious 97 from Shimron Hetmyer. Shimron Hetmyer’s match-winning 97 yielded the result for the Seattle Orcas as they ended a 10-match losing streak in a thrilling fixture. Shimron Hetmyer upped the ante in the final overs of the game and finished it with a last-ball six. They needed nine off the final over from Kieron Pollard.

The West Indies talisman did not allow Hetmyer to flex any muscle up until the last two balls of the over. Only two runs came off the first four balls. Hetmyer's mistimed shot on the penultimate ball resulted in a brace, meaning six runs were needed on the last ball. Pollard bowled a slower ball around the leg, it stayed low, Hetmyer got inside the line of the ball and smashed it over fine-leg for a six to register a famous win and end his team's 10-match losing streak.

As it happened:

Batting first, MI New York lost both the openers cheaply. However, Nicholas Pooran tore the opposition apart with a blistering knock of 108 off 60 balls. His knock consisted of seven fours and eight sixes. Tajinder Dhillon got off to a shaky start but once he got going, he overshadowed Pooran. He played a stunning knock of 95 runs in 35 deliveries. MI New York would be dissapointed with their eventual score of 237 as last three overs yielded just 19 runs. 

Chasing 238 runs, Seattle Orcas lost both openers inside four overs but Sikandar Raza, Kyle Mayers, and Heinrich Klassen kept the side in the chase. Shimron Hetmyer stepped in when they needed 130 runs from 12 overs. He single-handedly chased down the target with a match-winning 97 off 40 balls.
