[Watch] Dewald Brevis hits first ball six on ODI debut against Australia
South Africa’s rising star Dewald Brevis made his ODI debut in the first match of the three-match series against Australia at Cazaly's Stadium on Tuesday. He came on to bat in the 41st over after the Proteas batters had set the platform to go all guns blazing in the final ten overs.
He faced Travis Head and whacked him for a six first ball. It wasn’t too short, but Brevis quickly got on the back foot and smashed a powerful hit straight down the ground for a six.

Travis Head bowled another flighted delivery, tempting Brevis to go for a maximum. The South African couldn’t resist and went for the big shot. Initially, it looked like the ball would clear the fielder at mid-on, but was caught just inside the boundary rope. Dewald Brevis’ short stay ended on 6 off 2 balls.
Dewald Brevis set the stage on fire in the recent T20I series against the Aussies. He sent the Aussies bowlers on a leather hunt in the second game, playing a breathtaking knock of 125 runs in 56 balls at a strike rate of 223.21.
Brevis picked up from where he left off in the second game, smashing a 22-ball fifty in the third T20I.
South Africa set a target of 297 vs Australia in 1st ODI
Earlier, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickleton got the team off to a solid start, stitching a 92-run stand for the opening wicket. Marsh tried all the pacers, but it was Travis Head who broke the partnership. Rickleton departed after playing a well-made 33 off 43. Aiden Markram had a forgettable outing in the T20I series but has played an outstanding knock of 82 off 81 balls in the first ODI.
South Africa kept the hosts under pressure, courtesy of valuable contributions from Temba Bavuma (65) and Matthew Breetzke (57 off 56). The Aussies, however, pulled things back in the final 10 overs, giving away just 66 runs and picking five wickets during this period. Travis Head starred with the ball, picking 4 for 57 in 10 overs. South Africa have posted 296 at the end of the first innings.
