Pakistan’s former captain, Babar Azam, got out on a duck for the fifth time in one-day internationals during the second ODI against West Indies at Brian Lara Stadium on Sunday. He came to the innings at the fall of Saim Ayub’s wicket in the ninth over with the score of 37/1. Jayden Seales bowled two good-length deliveries outside the off stump before nailing a full ball that came into him. Babar played the wrong line, and the ball snuck between pad and bat to uproot his stumps.

Here are some of the fan reactions:

It was the fifth duck for Babar Azam in one-day internationals as his form in ODIs continues to disappoint. Babar Azam is averaging just 30 this year, posing a big concern for the team. Pakistan put in a disappointing performance with the bat, managing just 171/7 in 31 overs. West Indies won the game by five wickets [DLS Method] and levelled the series 1-1 with one match left to be played in the three-match series.

In the first ODI, Babar Azam huffed and puffed his way to 47 off 67 balls, including five fours and a six. Pakistan did put in a good show with the bat, chasing down a 281-run target in 48.5 overs. Pakistan had lost five wickets for 180 in pursuit of the target, but an unbeaten 104-run partnership from Hasan Nazar (63) and Hussain Talat (41) guided the team home in the end.

Babar Azam is no longer a part of Pakistan’s T20I team

Babar Azam last played for Pakistan in a T20 International against South Africa in December 2024. Following a string of underwhelming performances, including a lower strike rate, he was dropped from the squad. He wasn’t part of the recently concluded T20I series vs West Indies.

However, with the Asia Cup approaching, many want him to make a comeback in the team. Recently, former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram advocated for his comeback in Pakistan’s T20I team.

“If I had the authority, I would definitely include Babar Azam in the national T20 team," Akram said.

"The Asia Cup and then the World Cup are approaching, and we need a senior batter. Fans may recall that when he represented Somerset in 2019, he scored runs at nearly a 150 strike rate. He has the ability to adapt his batting according to the situation,” he added.
