The Indian team suffers a major setback for their upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, with veteran batsman Virat Kohli ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. In Virat Kohli's absence, Ruturaj Gaikwad could be included in the ODI squad during the three-match series, which begins on June 13. According to a BCCI source, Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the ODI series due to a hamstring injury. Kohli is currently in excellent form and is scoring runs consistently, and in such a situation, his exclusion from the series is a big blow for both the Indian team and the fans.

Kohli also suffered hamstring problems twice in the IPL 2026 final, and he also took help from a physio. However, despite this, Kohli remained unbeaten till the end and scored 76 runs, helping RCB win their second IPL title. He scored 675 runs in 16 innings with an average of 56.25 and a strike rate of 165.84, including 1 century and 5 half-centuries. Recently, some videos and photos of him in Vrindavan with his wife, Anushka Sharma, surfaced on social media.

With Virat Kohli ruled out of the series, the entire focus has now shifted to Rohit Sharma. However, it is not yet confirmed whether Rohit Sharma will actually play in this series either. According to reports, Rohit Sharma is also dealing with an injury, and the team management has not yet received any update regarding his condition. His availability depends on his fitness. Apart from Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya’s availability also depends on his fitness.

The India vs Afghanistan ODI series will start on June 13 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. After this, both teams will face each other on June 17 at Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. The last ODI will be played at MA Chidambaram, Chennai, on June 20.

India announced a strong squad for the 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan, but both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya's availability for the matches will be subject to both of them getting fitness clearance.
