Viral social media post ends speculation of rift between Gambhir and Pant once and for all
Speculations around a rift between Gautam Gambhir and Rishabh Pant began after the former didn’t applaud Pant for his twin centuries in the press conference after the Headingley Test (1st Test) between India and England. India lost the Test match by five wickets but Rishabh Pant received worldwide appreciation for his twin centuries in the Test match. However, when a reporter asked Gambhir about Rishabh Pant’s performance, he didn’t praise Pant but rather accused the reporter of framing the question badly. Gambhir pointed out that there were centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul as well but no one asked about those.
“There are three more centuries as well. Those are big positives as well. Thank you,” Gambhir told the reporter, trying to shut him down.” Gambhir to a question on Pant in the press conference following first Test loss.
“I would have liked if you said there was a hundred from Yashasvi (Jaiswal), a hundred from Shubman (Gill) on debut as captain,” he added.
“(There was a) hundred from KL (Rahul) and two centuries from Rishabh, so five centuries in a Test match is a great start to be honest. And hopefully the question could have been better,” he fired back.
Ever since that remark, there have been speculations of a rift between Gautam Gambhir and Rishabh Pant. Gautam Gambhir has never supported a player-centric culture but rather believes in promoting a strong team-first mentality. Previously, he has lashed out at the media for glorifying individuals like MS Dhoni and not praising the entire team for winning the World Cup.
And, this behaviour has often left him in trouble leading to speculations of a rift with several cricketers. However, his recent appearance in “The Great Indian Kapil Show” with Pant, Chahal, and Abhishek Sharma has left everyone smiling and quashing all the rumours.
Both Pant and Gambhir had a hearty time on the show, offering a glimpse into the cordial relationship the duo shares. And now a social media post has gone viral where both were seen laughing at a joke. On the second day of the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Pant was seen laughing and chatting with the head coach inside the dressing room.
