Vaibhav Sooryavanshi debut to headline the IND vs IRE 1st T20I? Here's the update
The first T20I between India and Ireland will be played on June 26 at the Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast. However, before the start of the match, every indian fan is curious about 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s debut. But it appears that the Indian team's management is not in a hurry to include the 15-year-old in the playing XI. Ahead of the first T20I, during a press conference, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak insisted that India would not bench an in-form player to hurry up his debut, saying the teenage wonder will get his chance when the time is right. Kotak further stated that the final decision regarding the starting lineup would be made by newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
If Sooryavanshi get a chance to play in the first T20I, he will become the youngest Indian cricketer to debut on both the men's and women's teams. Kotak praised Vaibhav and called him a unique talent, and he also did not completely rule out the possibility that he would be in the starting lineup.
"Vaibhav is very talented, there is no doubt. And the way he has batted in the IPL and all the other games, there is no need to say that he has got a lot of natural abilities. In the IPL, he has faced Jofra (Archer) and a lot of quick, experienced bowlers, and it seems that nothing is bothering him. So he is obviously an extraordinary talent," Kotak said.
However, he stated that merely having talent does not guarantee a spot in the India playing XI. He added that the head coach and the captain would take the final call according to the team’s requirements.
"Today evening, the captain and head coach will decide about the team. And if he plays, great. If he doesn't play, that is also great because he is part of the Indian team. And I am sure that he will get his dues and his opportunities. So I don't think that just to give him an opportunity, we should drop someone who has already been scoring runs," Kotak said.
Kotak continued that the management did not want to be unfair to a player who had already cemented his position in the team.
“There is "a very thin line between trying to give somebody an opportunity and being unfair to some other player," he added.
Kotak reiterated that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will not receive any special treatment from the team management, despite the fact that his age has made him one of the most talked-about topics before the Ireland series. Rather, the batting coach stated that the emphasis was on making sure the young player enjoyed being around the senior team and felt comfortable in the dressing room.
