Three turning points in the KKR vs CSK IPL 2025 match

Rarely has there been an IPL season where an eliminated team has not taken someone along with them. CSK registered only their third win of the season, in their 12th group-stage game of IPL 2025. However, their third victory cost the defending champions heavily. With a 2-wicket defeat in the KKR vs CSK IPL 2025 match, Kolkata Knight Riders have been eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs race. While KKR held their nerves against the six sixes by Riyan Parag in their last fixture at home, the KKR vs RR game, the 30-run over by Dewald Brevis annihilated them in their latest setback. MS Dhoni sure did take it deep yet again. However, a six off a full toss by Andre Russell followed by a winning four by Anshul Kamboj made sure CSK picked up at least 6 points in the disappointing season.

Key moments from the KKR vs CSK IPL 2025 match

Chennai Super Kings, fortunately, saw different players rising to the occasion at Eden Gardens in the KKR vs CSK match. Noor Ahmad, with a four-fer in the first innings, ensured that the ask didn't rise to an unreal level for his batters. Dewald Brevis, with a scintillating half-century in the middle order, picked CSK out of another pit, pulling down the asking run rate. While Shivam Dube departed after helping the chase significantly, MS Dhoni held his nerve in the last over as his team won the game by 2 wickets with just 2 balls remaining. KKR threatened the visitors multiple times in the face-off. However, none of the threats bore results, as CSK saw it through, no matter how hard it got at times.

Noor Ahmad dismantled the home team with a four-fer, restricting the target to 179 in the KKR vs CSK game

The story remained eerily similar for Kolkata Knight Riders despite the stakes being significantly higher in the game. It was Ajinkya Rahane at the fore again as the openers departed early. Entering in the second over after the dismissal of Rahmanullah Gurbaz against Anshul Kamboj, Rahane was handed a life on 15 when Pathirana spilled a misjudged pull shot. Sunil Narine also went on the offensive, dispatching Ravichandran Ashwin for two boundaries and a six in a single over. Kamboj’s second spell went for 17, adding pressure on CSK early.

However, the tide turned as the CSK spinners took the onus. Ashwin imposed pressure with a tight seventh over before Noor Ahmad joined the attack. The young spinner removed Sunil Narine as Dhoni struck from behind the stumps in yet another show of exemplary sharpness. Angkrish Raghuvanshi fell victim to the same masterclass as Dhoni caught an edge and Noor Ahmad earned his second scalp in the same over. The wicket marked Dhoni becoming the first wicket-keeper in IPL to complete 200 dismissals.

The middle fared utterly silent as KKR observed a four-over long stretch with a boundary drought. As soon as Rahane attempted to change the pace with a six, Ravindra Jadeja hit back, removing the captain at 48. Andre Russell came to the rescue once again for the home team, clinching a six and two fours off Jadeja before getting to Pathirana. However, Noor Ahmad rejoined the attack and announced that it was his day at the Eden Gardens.

The spinner dismissed the danger before getting to KKR's designated finisher, Rinku Singh to scalp another four-fer in the season, as Ayush Mhatre completed a brilliant catch at the boundary line. Noor concluded his impactful spell with figures of 4 for 31, bowling the 19th over. Pathirana closed the innings effectively, conceding only six singles in the final over to restrict KKR to 179.

KKR rattled the chase early, reducing CSK to 60 for 5 in the powerplay itself

CSK endured early hits at the hands of Vaibhav Arora who removed the in-form opener, Ayush Mhatre at a duck. However, another youngster, making his debut in the yellows was marked to rise up for the team. Urvil Patel took Eden by storm, smashing four sixes and a four in the powerplay. His 33 off just 11 brought early promise in the chase even when Devon Conway walked off cheaply. The promising start, however, soon crumbled. The top order unraveled with five wickets falling within the fielding restrictions. Urvil’s electric cameo ended with a catch off Harshit Rana.

CSK fans saw Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin partnering for the team in the powerplay. While Jadeja showed a glimpse of intent hitting with a six, the partnership fell off as Ashwin walked off against Harshit Rana. Ravindra Jadeja could not stay back, walking off in the very next over, pulling Chennai Super Kings to the last half of the attack in the powerplay itself. It seemed like a done deal for the defending champions in the KKR vs CSK IPL 2025 match from there. However, a Dewald Brevis show awaited Eden, which was filled with yellow army despite being the home to KKR.

Dewald Brevis lifted the chase with a brilliant half-century before cameos from MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube sealed the win

Dewald Brevis brought much-needed composure and aggression. Targeting the spin duo of Narine and Chakaravarthy, he launched a clean boundary and a towering six off Narine. But it was against Arora that Brevis turned the game. After being dropped by Raghuvanshi at long-off, an error that cost six runs, Brevis dismantled the bowler, striking a four, another boundary over cover, and two majestic straight sixes in a 30-run over that flipped the match. He raced to a half-century in just 22 balls, bringing the target down to 57 from 54 deliveries.

Just when CSK seemed to have regained control, Chakaravarthy pulled them back. Brevis, on 52, was caught soon after, prompting a brief quiet phase in the scoring. A couple of tight overs followed, leaving CSK needing 40 from the final five overs. The equation was manageable. However, MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube were the last stable partners left in the CSK order as the pressure surged to palpable levels. Shivam Dube provided the finishing acceleration, pulling Russell for four and following up with clean sixes off Harshit Rana and Arora.

But Arora struck back in the penultimate over, removing Dube for a well-compiled 45 and then knocking over Noor Ahmad to keep KKR’s hopes alive. With eight needed from the final six balls, Russell opened with a misjudged full toss, one MS Dhoni dispatched over midwicket for a crucial six. That left just two to get, and Kamboj calmly lifted one over mid-on to finish the job with two balls remaining.
