BRILLIANT COMEBACK! The Gujarat Titans (GT) have surely pulled off a miraculous 3-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in a phenomenal low-scoring thriller played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season saw a number of twist and turns involving no-balls, dropped catches and multiple rain breaks. While defending a below-par score of 155 runs, the Mumbai Indians definitely gave a tough fight to the opposition, however, eventually they failed to breach the winning line. With this emphatic victory, the Gujarat Titans have claimed the top position on the IPL 2025 points table having registered a total of eight wins from their eleven games this season.

MI vs GT IPL 2025: Gujarat bowlers' stunning performance restricts MI to a below-par score of 155 runs

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, hosts Mumbai Indians did not had the best of starts, losing both their openers, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton with just 26 runs on the scoreboard. The pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks then came together to bail their team out of trouble with a fine partnership of 51 runs. Jacks contributed with an impressive knock of 53 runs off just 35 balls before the Gujarat bowlers triggered a dramatic MI batting collapse as they lost a total of four wickets for just 26 runs.

Eventually, Mumbai Indians managed to finish with a nominal score of 155 for 8 in their quota of 20 overs. For the Gujarat Titans, left-arm spinner Sai Kishore picked up a couple of vital wickets while the rest of the bowlers also took a wicket each.

Boult-Bumrah lead a phenomenal comeback by the Mumbai Indians

Left-arm pacer Trent Boult helped Mumbai Indians start off the second innings on a fantastic note as he removed the in-form Sai Sudharsan in just the second over. There were strong winds blowing and constant drizzling going on at the Wankhede Stadium during the run-chase. The duo of skipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler settled the nerves in the GT dressing room with an excellent partnership of 72 runs. MI's young left-arm seamer Ashwani Kumar took the crucial wicket of Buttler in the 12th over.

However, it was once speedster Jasprit Bumrah who brought the real twist in the game after the rain break as he first destroyed the stumps of Shubman Gill and then also dismissed Shahrukh Khan. Boult then got the better of Sherfane Rutherford while Ashwani removed Rashid Khan to pull things back for the Mumbai Indians. Incidentally, Mumbai Indians were 5 runs ahead by the DLS Method during the second rain break.

Another final over drama in IPL 2025

The rain gods finally had some mercy towards the Gujarat Titans as the MI vs GT IPL 2025 match restarted for one last time with the visitors needing 15 runs off the last over. Despite MI skipper Hardik Pandya having three overs in the bank, right-arm pacer Deepak Chahar was handed over the responsibilities to bowl the penultimate over. Rahul Tewatia smacked a brilliant boundary off the first ball while Gerald Coetzee blasted an amazing six off the third delivery during the final over to help Gujarat Titans take the driver's seat.

However, Chahar came back really well to take the matters till the last ball. Arshad Khan held his nerves remarkably well to take a single off the final delivery to help the Gujarat Titans take home a smashing victory.
